Yeah, the DS’s touch screen kinda worried me at first, because to me: LCD = NO TOUCH ON PAIN OF DEATH, but it’s surprisingly tough yet sensitive.
There are, of course, screen shields you can stick on there to keep the LCD from getting all scratched up. You can’t impale it with your stylus or scrub it with a Brillo pad, but that’s just common sense.
waits for Resident Evil: Deadly Silence to come out ^^
The touch screen is amazingly resilient to just about everything you can throw at it (including styluses chucked in frustration after missing out on the sonic rush special stage by 2 rings YET AGAIN… grr…). I’ve had mine since the UK launch and play with it frequently and it’s still responding perfectly.
Just reminds me of another unsung great game for the DS- Parolium. Each handheld has to have a wonderfully abstract puzzle game on launch and Parolium is one of the best examples yet. Ironically, only other one I can think of that tops it is Lumines…
Man foo, how can you reccommend it if you havnt played it?
Also Dave, anyone else, read this thread. Or at least the first post.
Edit: Me and dev were talkin in chat and he had this to say.
[22:53:35] <devillion> First of all, if he has the money and he wants to buy it, he shouldn’t be asking our opinion anyway, he should do what he wants and get one. If he WANTS it, then he won’t be dissappointed. Secondly, everyone telling him NOT to get a PSP, does not own one, and really, has no room to talk. I, you, and cro, everyone for the PSP has one.
[22:53:43] <devillion> Also, saying it has ‘no good games’ is stupid
[22:53:56] <devillion> It just fucking came out, of course the selection is slim.
Arguing this with me is pointless as those arent my comments. kthx
I think the reason a lot of people here have a distaste for the PSP is the fact that the games on the PSP tend to be geared more toward the mainstream gamer, so you get a lot of the sports, racing, war, GTA-type games, while the DS tends to get more of the “niche” type games. So, that doesn’t mean that their opinions are entirely invalid, even if they’ve never played a PSP. If somebody knows they don’t like those types of games, then they probably have a good idea that they won’t like the PSP. I tend to prefer the niche games myself, which is why the PSP doesn’t interest me much (it’s the same reason that I still don’t own an XBox). Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just that I’d rather play something like Castlevania than Grand Theft Auto.
Interestingly enough, though, I recently read a thread at GameFAQs where somebody was asking which handheld was better for RPGs (in a neutral forum), and the consensus seemed to be that the PSP was the better system for RPGs, for now at least, which kind of suprised me because I literally don’t know anything about the PSP RPGs, other than their names. But maybe they’re pretty good, I don’t know.
All that said, though, the fact that the PSP is getting a BRAND NEW 2D GHOULS N’ GHOSTS game makes it a very tempting handheld… I’ve been waiting almost 15 years for that…
