Trigun is 26 eps so yeah I agree with the fact that watching a series wouldn’t be good for a movie marathon night.
Also there are Kenshin/Samurai X OVA’s that can be taken as movies. I’m not too educated in the matter, but those would be good to watch to start off Kenshin.
TD I recommend you watch Trigun, it seriously rules.

It shouldn’t be. 
Just saw the Cowboy Bebop movie. Go for it. Even if it’s for Ed alone. Never saw any eps of it, though.
Kite, Jin-Roh, and…I’d mention more but some of them were already mentioned. ^^
Anime wise I would suggest Grave of the Fireflies, then you can really find out which of the guys are emotional. It’s a very sad anime, but a very well done anime as well.

you should probably start out with ghost in the shell and then show teh Tenchi Muyo OAV, and then the two extra movies (Tenchi in love and tenchi the movie two) those are great…
