planning a movie night...

I’m thinking about having a movie night with the guys in the near future and am planning on most of the movies being anime. Does anyone have any ideas for good ones to look for? I’m currently thinking about Akira and Ghost in the Shell, but those are about the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Castle of Cagliostro (Lupin the 3rd) and something comicaö would sound just perfect to compliment the action on your first two titles.

Zone Of The Enders: 2167 Idolo. One very very very cool Mecha OVA.

I need a list of commonly availible ones to use as backup for the others.

Blood the Last Vampire, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, umm…

Ninja Scroll

There’s an anime about the bombing in Japan during WWII. I can’t remember the name of it though. Its about a teenage boy taking care of his little sister during that time period. I’ve heard it was really good. Sorry I can’t think of the name.

End of Evangelion. The plot will be nonsensical but that won’t matter once Asuka goes nuts.

Warning.

DO NOT HAVE THE VOLUME TURNED UP LOUD

When she started muttering in that lake, I turned the sound up a bit too high to hear what she was saying and if she would say something else and my heart skipped a few beats when she had the uh…sudden outburtst. Greatest mistake of my anime life.

Don’t watch EoE unless you want the whole series ruined for you, and waste 2 hours on trying to understand something you won’t be able to understand. There are plenty of other movies with action scenes as well.

Be careful with Grave of Fireflies, it’s known to make even the toughest of men cry like babies. nod, nod

Boogiepop Phantom. It won’t start makeing sense till you have seen all of it, and expect to watch it three times before it makes sense.

Kare Kano. It’s a bit weird, but nice.

Record of Lodoss War OVA. It’s based on roleplaying games.

If you actually only want movies.

Cowboy Bebop Knocking on Heavens Door.
Escaflowne.

That movie was so awesome! I had to watch it at two in the morning when my parents were asleep for fear of any bad things in the movie. -_-’ But it was really good. ^.^

Spirited Away is visually apealing. There was anther kinda with the bases of the story being little red riding hood, but it was a war like time…I can’t remember the name…

Metropolis.

The first DVD of the X/199 tv show.

Unless you want to convince your friends that anime = crap, DO NOT repeat DO NOT show them the X/1999 OVA.

keep ‘em comin’, I might just wind up making a whole weekend of this. It won’t be 'till November but we need all the ideas we can get. We don’t generally go for comedies, but it might be fun to have some kind of FLCLish insanity. If you could, give some form of indication of what kind of anime it is (action, comedy, etc.)

Trigun I would have to suggest. Also .Hack//Sign. Rurouni Kenshin is really kick ass, its about samurai’s an shit. .Hack//Sign is about an MMORPG called The World, its pretty cool. And if you havent heard about Trigun you should be shot, by Vash of course. J/k, You know what I really dont know the main point of Trigun its just a very cool kind of western anime.

Also PV is your avvie Ashton from SO2, did they make and anime of that or was that a cut scene???

Yes, there was.

I don’t recommend that you show them .hack//SIGN if this is their first time with anime. I didn’t really like it, and I’m pretty sure that if you show it to them as one of their first things, they’ll be turned off from anime. See, the anime is 26 episodes of talking about the same subject. Besides the fact that that’s like 9 hours of stuff, it isn’t really a good first impression to show them something relatively “boring” :stuck_out_tongue:

Trigun and Kenshin are also series. Never watched them, but Kenshin is like 90 episodes, so I doubt you’d want to show them that :stuck_out_tongue:

So yeah. Stick with movies, save the episode marathons for when they actually like anime.
