It’s not a joke. It’s a hellishly awful parallel to The War Against Terrorism (TWAT :P) using Tolkien’s works. Tolkien should not be defiled in this manner.
It draws an innaccurace parallel, but Its funny nonetheless.

I don’t get it, lots of shows, like the Simpsons and South Parks do parodies on millions of things, people find them funny. Yet when there’s something done on a recent event, or something that seems like the least likely thing to joke about, it’s suddenly wrong or unfunny. Oh well, maybe I just don’t take things seriously.
It’s not that it’s recent, but there’s not a whole lot to parallel between the two. I mean, the War in LotR happened because Middle Earth and all its people were threatened. The world wasn’t threatened by Iraq.
