From what I’ve known, and I know everything, it came from Counter-strike and had a joint meaning from being owned by a player (someone with no name, assumably just logged onto CS for the first time) and pistol owned (being killed with a pistol) - the latter expanded into glowned, being killed with a glock back when it was a shitty gun.
Hehe, there was a discussion about this on another board I visit. the overall consensus was that its “poned”. Like Caleb, I’m certain its a typo like : pron, teh
I just assumed that the origin was a typo. It seemed the only logical explanation until I saw Sorc’s.
The funny thing about seeing everyone use teh for the is that I usually misspell it hte and never the other way.
In my head, I pronounce it own"p"ed, if you can imagine the “p” being superimposed over the rest of the word, somewhere in the middle.
I always said powned.
