One could only wish...

That’s true. If it was perfect, it would be more feasable…

One could argue that by killing the rapist (or forcing him into such torture), you sink to his level, and thus become an equal of the rapist.

Sinking to that level is fine by me, actually. If I can prevent other rapes and murders, what should it matter?

Harming an innocent is disgusting, which is exactly why Sin is correct.

I do agree with that CC. There’s no reason to hurt an innocent person. If only we had the perfect justiice system… or good and accurate psychics and mindreaders.

I still stand by my previous statement though.

Yup, the legal system is far from perfect. People get off who’re guilty and others get convicted when innocent. However, I think if you have traces of sperm inside of a woman, DNA matches, there’re witnesses, etc. it’s difficult to get it wrong (though I’m sure it still happens). That being said, I like the idea of a rapist getting castrated. Or various other things. :stuck_out_tongue:

I heard on idea when I was in shcool a long tie ago: Vialate them with od, unpolished broom handles.

Harsh punishments only works against joy criminals, not against desperate ones. [/b]

Or pathological/compulsive ones.

You know, the kind we’re dealing with here…

The harshest punishment of all cures any compulsive criminal.

and infects everyone else.

Two words: Head off. That way they don’t cost the state money (food) for a free life.
The Reha- thing is done in Germany; we stuff all psychos into clinics. What happens is that they tell the therapists some shit about how they’ve bettered, they are released again and continue doing what they did before. That also applies for serial killers and stuff. Awful.
If not head off, I’d combine #2 and #3. Hey, castrated workers. Better be sure.

And yeah, the thing with killing innocents is a high risk, I agree on that one. But once the law gets passed, the rates should drop anyway… <_<

Rock on. See, when people let their emotions control legal judgment (that fucking scum! lowest of low! fucking shoot his ass! castrate that motherfucker!), it doesn’t STOP crime; it just, like Kaiser said, infects everyone else with that anger, which in turn will cause more crime, even if it’s in the name of stopping the previous crime (the way that asshole looked at my girlfriend and made her feel violated! i’ll kill that bastard!) - for example. If this seems ridiculous, trust me, there have been more ridiculous and more disturbing things done in the name of stopping other bad things.

But, at the same time, the logical reason that we don’t want rapists walking around in our midst is because they make normal, unfearful day-to-day living impossible. Now, if there were any sort of reliable methods of rehabilitation, I’d go for choice #2, but frankly science isn’t advanced enough for that right now. It’s definitely getting better, but still.

And #3 might be good if we could be sure that said companies weren’t corrupt (pay off the company, let people go free), and frankly, since corporations are essentially just money-making machines (the creator of nation-states has explicitly said so, if that means anything), I wouldn’t trust them not to be for a second. And besides, that’d just give those corporations way, way more power over our government, so that the state would be solely devoted to economic control of the world, which is what’s killing it/causing most, if not all, of the international/ecological problems of the present day.

Back when civilization wasn’t so spread out, rapists and murderers were simply exiled from the community which they were a part of, and never allowed back. Of course, back in the day, I’d be willing to bet that there weren’t quite so many pathological/compulsive crimes, since the world wasn’t quite as screwed up as it is now, but shrug. Changing times.

Anyways, I’d say #2, but with the implication that these people very likely won’t ever be let out. As well as increased funding for neuropsychological studies, cause, well frankly, we’re a screwed up people, given our culture, and the sooner we can understand ourselves on an actually scientific level, the sooner (maybe) we can go about making sense of things.

In Sweden we have a severely fucked up legal system when it comes to rape… It’s almost getting to the point where you can’t even have sex with a girl without fear of getting sued for it.

Yeah, rapists are bad. Rape is a crime that needs to be severely punished. And yeah, you need to lock rapists in, especially if they commit it multiple times. But when emotions comes in play, it isn’t justice any longer; It’s more like a witch hunt.

Let’s take the following example; A teenage girl gets plastered. She’s at a bar. She finds a guy attractive. She takes him home, they have sex. She doesn’t enyoy it very much, but she has spread her legs and willingly shown she wants him. Next day she goes to the police and says she’s been raped. Is it rape then?

Problem is, there are far too many examples like that out there, with girls willingly inviting a guy, and then does not wish to take the consequences of her actions. That doesn’t mean that guys shouldn’t take their responsibility as well however, if a girl says no it’s a no.

When something similar to the above happens more often than not, something is seriously messed up. If the So-called rapist gets convicted for it, it’s even worse.Whatever happened to “Innocent until proven otherwise”?
