my ps 2 has died

My ps2 has stopped reading discs. It’s about two years old. I cleaned out the dust but still no luck. Can it be fixed?

No.

Is it the discs? Because if it’s the lens, you’re out $200+

Sony makes PS2s to break. Its a money ploy.

Send it in to get the lense fixed. I can get the number for you tomorrow.

Sad, but true. Sony’s quality is somewhat shitty, compared to Nintendo’s near-invincible hardware. So I hear people say, from hearsay. Yeah.

Yeah, its true, I could throw my snes games around for an entire day and they would still work, my console fell so many times from on top of the televsion too, not to mention my gba.

Nintendo’s stuff is pretty damned durable. The only thing that really gets to them is age (i.e. NES).

Maybe.
You’d have to ask someone with the competence to fix such things. Most likely it will turn out to cost you less to buy a new one though, that is how it usually turns out anyway.

Hell no, I still have that damn thing hooked up to my TV. Shit, I was playing Zelda a few days ago.

I’d bet you could toss that thing out a window and it still would work.

Hey how bout that.

Xelo, it costs just as much, and more to fix the lens, as it does to buy a new one. And i read somewhere that sony doesnt replace the lenses on the real old PS2’s.

No no, Epic. I still have a working NES but it’s kinda spotty on playing games and none of the games have a save battery any more. It’s still working; it’s just seen better days.

same thing happened to me… but I my new computer when it did :stuck_out_tongue:

My NES is still real finicky about starting up (every time I change cartridges it’s slow to “accept” it and I have to reset, jiggle the game, etc) but after a little of that it’s fine. And the battery based games like Zelda I and II still work fine.

Yeah, Nintendo consoles are durable, tru dat. My SNES is about 11.5 years in service now, and still clickin away fine.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve dropped my GB, GBC and GBA in the past. Each onto surfaces like concrete or tile, and nothing ever happened except a scratch. That’s one of the nice thing’s about the Gamecube having a handle: small enough to take anywhere and strong enough so you don’t have to worry about the trip over and back.

As for the PS: I actually have a theoy about the PS2 and XBox, somewhat along the lines of Shinobi’s post: PS2s and XBoxs have internal clocks that tell the system to malfunction and for all value of the system to nulify one day after the warentee expires. (I had that happen to an MP3 player a while back, pissed the hell out of me.) But that’s just a theory.

BTW, how did you scratch the lens??

If it’s just games, it might be a voltage issue. Someone else can help you with that more than I can, since I never had to deal with that. Try turning the system onto its side; that worked for me.

I must be lucky. I have the super-crappy PS2 model (the very first ones to come out), and I don’t have half as many problems with it as others do. And as for the supposed Nintendo quality…I had a new NES, and within a year, the controller was busted, the system was having trouble reading games, and a bunch of other crap happened. So much for quality.

Well your not the only one who has a paper weight former called the PS2. Mine PS2 died a few months ago, and so far, I haven’t bought a new one. Just not enough games to warrent a repurchase, so I sold off all the PS2 game that I had (not much) and now just buying stuff for GC and X-Box only.

On a related note…the SNES continues to surive the End of the World…

Here’s my thorem:

PS2’s break easily, but most problems can be dealt with yourself. You could try looking at some online manuals, or if it’s a really baqd problem, you might have to send it to a repair shop.

XBoxes and GameCubes don’t break as much, but they have to be sent to the repairshop to fix the smallest of errors.

So, it’s 50-50.

I’ll testify to the shitty-ness of the playstation. I went through 4 regular old PSX’s before I got a working one in the PSOne, haven’t had any problems with this one in the two and a half years I’ve owned it. As opposed to being on the phone arguing with one of Sony’s jackass customer service people every other fuckin week with my first four psx’s. I’ve had a PS2 a little over two years and it hasn’t given me any problems so far.
