More tech help.

I need to add a new hard disk into my computer, but i have no slots availible. (My PC came with 4 slots, and they are no occupied by 2 optical drives, one hard disk, and one 3.5 floppy).

Is there anyway i can add another rack into the case of my computer to put the new drive in? Or do i have to go buy a new case? And no, having it as an external drive is not an option.

Unless you can find some place to screw the thing in, you’re probably going to need a new case. Sometimes there are screw holes that “hang” from underneath or on the sides. Cases are less then 20 bucks, but then there’s the trouble of moving everything from one case to the other.

But I’m not really one to talk, on my older computers I just let shit hang and I never screwed anything in.

Get rid of the floppy drive already. If you’re running two optical drives, you must have CD-RW. Do you even use that thing?

Also if your computer is that small and only came with 4 slots INCLUDING the floppy, you probably have a ridiculously crappy power supply as well. I’d check that out and make sure it’s capable of running all that stuff without overexerting itself.

Yea, the power supply is ok. It has an extra plug for another drive, which makes me wonder why the case doesn’t have an extra rack.

And epic, is it ok to just let it hang?

Would it hurt to use duct tape?

I wouldn’t think it would be all that safe, but that was just my “Screw around with” computer. If you could manage to set it ontop of something, but not screw it in, that would be much better. You’d just have to be careful when moving the computer.

It’s pretty safe, but don’t throw the case around and trust them less than the properly fastened ones.

Get rid of the floppy, I agree with Zep

I ended up taking the floppy out and putting in the hard disk. I don’t know why i didn’t do that in the begining, seeing as i never use it >_>.

Though, next time i have to add a drive, i’m totally doing it with some duct tape. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I am posting this because I don’t feel like making a new thread. I keep getting this error message from Norton

And since it came on the computer and I have no discs for it, I can’t reinstall it.

What do I do?

Call norton tech support/your computer manufactures tech support and explain the situation. Usually they send you an install disk of the same version.

Word, Thanks.
