MGS 3: Could be THE END for me if I dont get some suggestions

I’m hell bent on beating this guy. I almost had him in about 30 minutes, much to my considerable surprise. Unforutantely, I was captured. Besides gamefaqs, which I looked up, I’d like to hear suggestions from you as to how you beat him. I’m aware of that part where you could pick him off early on during a cutscene. Obviously I’m long past that. I’m also aware of the time-victory, where if you save before you fight him, and wait several days and get back to it he would’ve died. (My boss fell victim to that) I absolutely refuse to have it, um… “End” this way (heh…heh…).

So feed me your suggestions.

Try using the microphone to track him down. His heavy breathing should do him in.

Also, you can use the Thermal Goggles to track his footsteps.

Well, like Cid said, use the thermal googles.

Mic and thermal goggles. Its also helpful to let him fall asleep then sneak up on him to bust a few caps in his head.

Thermo Goggles and a shotgun is all you need. Run around looking for footprints and follow them to him. Shot the shit out of him with the shotgun and he’ll run away after blinding you. Rinse and Repeat…

Alternatively, start the fight. Save, then go into the PS2 bios and change the date 7 days ahead (1 week) and he’ll die of old age.

Make sure you used the stealth walking, but yeah, the footprints are key.

One more thing-How long did it take you to beat him?

First playthrough about 45 mins because I was trying to get his damn camo.

Use the map and track him Down that is what i did and then shoot him with the shootgun enjoy

Really? It took me one try and about 15 minutes, and I tranqed him AND got his camo o.O

It’s not really hard. The best way to do it is to run around and make a lot of noise and be noticeable, and then he’ll take a shot at you. After he does, turn it on and go stealth (not really stealth but just be sneaky) and check your map. After he fires his gun he shows up on your map. Get to another area as soon as you possibly can and you can sneak up behind him by going around him on another screen. Sneak up behind him and pop him in the head a couple times and he’ll throw a flash grenade. When he starts to do this he is invincible, so just roll away real quick and then switch on your thermal goggles and follow him. If you follow him long enough (he’ll know when you’re following him and he’ll just keep running) his stamina will go down and he’ll stop to catch his breath, where you can just keep shooting him some more and he’ll throw another grenade.

wash, rinse, repeat.

Yay, I defeated him. It took me about two hours, though. I tried the above suggestion, but I kept getting nailed. Basically all I did, was get nailed, bust out the Thermal Goggles, point them in the direction I was shot at, see him, and bust some caps. Eventually it got to the point where he was gonna use that forest prayer thing, but I somehow mangaged to run into him at the last second and wail on him with that M37 or whatever that is (the machine gun that isnt the AK) Sadly that didnt do much damage, but It did keep him from using it again. Eventually he had next to no stamina, so I kept trying to sneak up on him, but kept failing. So I just reverted back to my first tactic-shoot at the direction I was being shot from. Towards the end I absolutely refused to go into FP mode for anything, cos I know if you do, and he’s lower on life, he’ll get up to you from behind.

It took me over an hour the first (and only) time. God, was that annoying.

I dont understand how you got shot so much. I only got hit a few times in that fight…

I find it too tedious to just go about all sneaky like.

Besides, like I said, I ended up just using it as indicator to find him.

Yeah, but all you’ve really got to do is just roll around instead of running and you generally wont get shot.

The first time I’d say it took me 10 minutes, didn’t seem like a long time or too much of a chore to beat him… At first I found out where he was then if it was a cliff I’d sneak under where he was hiding and throw concussion grenades up at him… Once I ran out I changed to the tranquiliser gun and snuck up behind him.
