Ok, I’m mostly out of games to play (darn Suikoden 3 finally ending) so does anyone have any suggestions for new ones? I’m looking for one that will actually take some time or keep me occupied for more than a few hours. Just a few things.
PC, PS2, or Game Cube; nothing else. (I have enough GBA stuff for now)
No strategy games. While they do fit the whole “take a long time” thing, I hate strategy games. Except FFT, it was fun.
If you’re willing to give a strat RPG another chance, I’d suggest Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Not since Chrono Trigger have I played a game with so much replay value. It’s a game guaranteed to keep you busy for a looong time. I’ve clocked over a hundred hours on it and I STILL have a lot to do.
That aside, I think the Megaman Aniversary Collection is coming out soon for the Cube. That sounds like it’d be another good time-eater.
If you want something relatively recent, try out Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, if your PC is powerful enough (256 MB RAM, at least a geforce 2 will be needed. For processor, I’m not sure what the exact needed is, but my 1.3 GHz ran it fine). KOTOR also has lots of replay value (maybe not as much as Disgaea, though), with each play lasting ~40 hours each, so theres a relatively good time investment there. And almost the entire game is enjoyable, I can’t think of any part that stuck out as ‘outright horrible’. Very nonlinear, albeit with only 2 endings, with the ability to choose whether you remain with the light side, or fall to the dark side etc etc. The characters are surprisingly well done (from HK-47’s desire to blast meatbags, to Jolees carefree’edness, to Bastilas ‘high class snootiness’). I ultimately consider it game of the year 2003.
I second Star Wars: KoTOR. It is a blast. You can play through ti twice with very different experiences and then another couple of times. Plus, you can change teh final outcome several ways.
I recommend Knights of the Old Republic if you want an RPG, Splinter Cell if you want a stealth game that isn’t too expensive these days, or Call of Duty if you want an action FPS (that shouldn’t be too expensive either).
Try Viewtiful Joe. Play it through on easy, then on hard, then play as Sylvia, Alastor and Captain Blue. At least I THINK thats what happens. I’m still making my way through Adults mode. Very tricky.
<img src=“http://www.rpgclassics.com/subsites/twistedrpg/images/hero/rirse.gif”> A lot of the choices above (Spliter Cell, Viewtiful Joe, KotOR) are great ideas, but I also suggest XIII. It was a underated first person shooter that uses cell shading over a Unreal engine. It great, has 35 missions, but are not super long like other FPS. Besides, it has Mayor Adam West playing a general.
