Life... really fucking sucks.

Okay.

I need some advice, please k tnx.

I had this heating element, plugged into an outlet, in the wall, and had it on medium heat. Then, without noticing it was on, put my CD case there, in front of the fucking element…

I need some help, seriously. My memory card is melted, but still fits in the PS2 slot, but, won’t read. I’m so fucking pissed, 'cause I lost 200 hours of gaming, over fucking [i]temperatures/i].

I lost…

71 hours with FFVIII
49 hours with FFVII
52 hours with FFIX
48 hours with LoD
52 hours with Chrono Cross
28 hours with Jade Cocoon
1 hour with Final Fantasy Tactics.

I’m unbelievably pissed off. Any advice on how to fix the memory card? I can take the screws offa it, and take out the Mem.Chip, but when what?

If the card fit in its socket and didn’t edit: READ, then you probably lost it.

That chip is a RAM chip. It stores information as electrical charges. When you heat things, you change their conductability (correct me if I mispelt) and then the charges will flow a little to readjust themselves. In other words: get yourself a new memory card.

Where I live, we have a saying that goes “crying over the spilled milk accomplishes nothing”. It means that you shouldn’t cry, nor swear, nor despair in anyway, and take this as a lesson. Forget that you had lots of gaming stored there and restart things from the zero stake.

I can’t remove the card, and plant it into another casing, and use it?

That won’t work. Remember, the case is just a piece of plastic and has no electronic stuff on it, so changing it is like paiting a car. Different cover, but same functioning.

Oh, on an unrelated topic: Let me be the first one to say ‘Welcome to the Jungle’. You are the second person to get in here without a “hi I’m new!” thread in a few days. That’s rare, so I won’t forget you.

Yeah, but it could be because the casing is so mangled (and it is), that it won’t fit into the slot properly?

When you said it still fit I thought it had an ok fitting. If it doesn’t fir properly, then you still have a chance of it working should you change the case. Though it’s not a sure thing.

Well, it’s pretty mangled. It appears to fit fine into the slot; although, it doesn’t even recognize a memory card is in the slot, let alone read any data.

Then I’d say there is hope, since likely a truly faulty card would detect but have errors. No harm in trying, I guess.

Open it, you’ve got little to lose. Assume the worst though, there’s no reason why the chips on the inside should’ve survived when the outside didn’t.

Well, I opened it up, took the bottom of the 'card off, and tried it. It works. But, I quickly transfered the files onto another mem.card.

Life still sucks, though… don’t know if the files still work. D:

Well, hopes are higher now that you got access to those files.

If you transfered them, why wouldn’t they work? If they were messed up, then they shoudn’t even look like the game files (icon, hours played, etc), would they?

Yeah, you certainly wasted 48 hours of your life with LoD, working files or not. Anyway, hope it works out, I lost 200+ hours after I fucked up with Alundra.

Do a test run. Remove all other memory cards save for the ones with the refugee files (and get all non-refugees off that card just in case) and try loading them up in their’ respective games. I say get the non-refugees away just in case an error causes a reformat or some wierd crap.

That sucks.

I’m kinda at a loss as to why losing 200+ hours of saves is worth it. It doesn’t matter. Only 1 was FFT. >:O

Screw the poor, fuck the refugees, who gives a shit about child labor, a fucking memory card failed. Someone call FEMA and the Red Cross, we have a dire situation here.

>_>

Seriously though, you put 71 hours into FF8? Doing what? I could barely stand the 25 hours it took me to beat that game.

I woulda been more pissed that I spent some cash on the card.

Well, Chrono Cross is in there too…

I agree with Dev though, what the fuck did you do in FFVIII? I got to 39 hours and I’m considered a slow gamer.

We lost our game save of SSBM a few weeks back, and it had every trophy, every level, every character, etc (we also lost a 100% Metroid Prime game, all of our game completion data for Mega Man Anniversary Collection, and my brother’s THUG save file with literally EVERYTHING done). It really sucked, but we’ve already got about 200 of the SSBM trophies back, so it’s not the end of the world or anything.

Sorry to hear about this. 8(
