Alright, who here likes Akira? Come on now. It wasn’t the greatest movie ever, but it had style!

Hmm Kanedas dub was johnny yong bosch, same guy who voiced vash ^ _ ^. Seems the Japanese are into their country, city of Toyko, world being destroyed a lot? Godzilla, Akira, sailor moon maybe? Uh what others? Theres huge manga for Akira i’ve seen, is it a continuation of Akira or what?
What does Akira translate to?

Perhaps they have some fixation with this idea because they got nuked in WW2.
Akira is an awesome movie, a really good anime. I wouldn’t mind reading the manga one day.
Oh right ^ _ ^; on that note i’ve also seen Grave of the fireflies, though i didn’t like the characters much, how the guy acted, he could have helped himself and his sister a lot more but he didn’t.
Anime aren’t supposed to be fairy tales.
I have, awesome movie. Haven’t read the manga yet, though I wouldn’t mind giving it a shot.
I haven’t seen to much of it, but from what i’ve seen it looks awesome.
Well, SOME Animes are supposed to be Fairy Tales. But even those tend to be cool as hell. (One of my first Animes as a kid was Pinocchio… and trust me, it had stuff in it Disney would have NEVER approved of! :mwahaha: )
As for the Japanese’s obssession with destruction… well, I once saw an article that mentioned that it was because they are USED to destruction. Japan has always been hit by disasters (from natural ones like hurricanes and earthquakes to wars and dictatorships) to say nothing of the Atom Bombings. (BTW, it has been predicted a major earthquake WILL hit Tokio someday- that’s gotta add to the stress.)
As for Akira- no, I haven’t seen it yet. Gotta do it someday.

That’s ridiculous. Anime’s a versatile medium, that’s the great thing about it. My friend got me watching “Princess Tutu” which is the ultimate fairy tale (it draws from every source imaginable) and I love it. Don’t be so close-minded
It was pretty good. I finally saw it over the summer around the same time I saw Ninja resurection.
Not a good combo if you really haven’t seen that much blood in an anime.
Yep. Seen the (subbed) movie, have the first half of the manga … and that’s Tetsuo, not Kaneda, although I’ll assume you meant that’s what he was saying.

More importantly, he played the second Black Ranger on Power Rangers, Adam.
P.S. It was revolutionary, but it still sucks
I only watched the first season of the power rangers, oh well, hes not that great looking either rar. He also is voicing a guy on witch hunter robin, woo.
Dont insult me Hades, i insult myself as is ;p dont need your help.
There wasn’t that much to the movie so dont know if this would really be spoilerish about Grave of the Fireflies but just in case I just wish he had talked to his relatives more, talked back or even got a job while his granmother? or aunt? took care of his sister. I don’t see why he couldn’t have gotten a job, maybe even tending someones crops for them? Maybe it’s the respect your elders thing is why he didn’t talk back to his relatives. He didn’t say much throughout the whole film either, i didn’t really understand him
I’m not the only one who doesn’t like how a certain character acts and doesn’t know how to explain it much.
Was watching this show within the last week and it said that Japan is right where 4 plates converse and the whole country is filled with little fault lines. They have lots of money invested in making sure their people know what to do when an earthquake hits and their buildings are being modified to withstand an earthquake to some extent.
TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Rocking movie. The new dub is amazing.

I didn’t say they were supposed to not be fairy tales I said they’re not supposed to be fairy tales There’s a difference I was merely saying they’re not, by definition, fairy tales, and sometimes not everything works out.
GSM: It’s easy to expect that of him when you watch the movie objectively, but the human condition (a term that describes how our subjective mind influences our actions) sometimes makes it hard to do things that might seem to be really sensible. Remember there’s was a war going on, and the boy might’ve been a little out of it.
But that doesn’t really take away your right to not like how he acted, so… uh, yeah Regardless of his condition, I guess he did do some pretty stupid things.

I actually preferred the old dub one hell of a lot more. The new voice actors just don’t really appeal to me, I guess, after I’ve attached the old ones to the characters. My brain can’t cope with the transition
I loved the movie. Is it worth checking out the mangas, they’re kind of expensive?
Pierson you rock
