I mean, the grainy yellow font that’s hard to read against the animation on screen, and how usually, the sound quality of the japanese track doesnt recieve the same treatment as the english track. What made me think of this is watching howls moving castle, the subbed version. The sub font is small and white, so needless to say, it’s impossible to read in front brighter colors, of which there are plenty.
Who is this ‘they’? Because there are only a dozen or so real subbing groups who put actual effort into their work instead of runshing it out and screaming “FIRST!”, the rest are just like you describe.

Totally. Since buying Elfen Lied, I’ve watched it zero times because that ugly yellow font ruins the mood of the series, especially after seeing fansubs where they altered the font to distinguish Lucy and Nyuu’s personality (also Mariko and Nana in certain situations).
I understand that, just thought I’d throw that in there too. The subtitles are annoying, and hard to read if they put in way too many of them. Especially if they decide to place Japanese words there too. It hurts my head.
I came here to post something similar, and am saddened that he’s not even talking about that problem.
