That falls in my Paprika level of WTF movies. Its not quite as bizarre in terms of content, but in terms of presentation, which of course is the ENTIRE point of the movie. Its supposed to be a satire of many many things and it does it quite well, which is very funny. I hate musicals but I have to hand it to Sweeney Todd for making it ironic enough for me to stand watching it.
Told you. I think.
I thought the execution was a little crude and not-subtle (I’m not a huge Tim Burton fan), but overall I liked it.
I saw this movie a couple weeks ago. Since I took a Gothic and Horror narrative English class this semester, I thoroughly enjoyed all the references to the genre and the overall story. I too enjoyed the delivery and presentation of the ideas. It was great how Mr. Todd sliced the throats of his customers in a nonchalant manner.
I think I need to check out Paprika still if there are comparisons in bizarreness.
I accidently watched the BBC-version and wondered why there was no singing. I also waited for Johnny Depp to appear.
He never came.
;_;
Weirdly enough, I’ve read the book and not seen the movie. The other time this happened to me it was with the Devil’s Advocate and I just managed to watch it this year on TV, so I don’t really expect to see Sweeney before a decade or so.
I got the dvd and the book with the penny dreadfuls for my birfday. :3
Paprika was better.
