“Like, Socrates was a bad person, because he bothered people that he like shouldn’t have been bothering. He should have been in a classroom or something, teaching people who want to learn, instead of politicians and stuff. We should let the politicians do what they think is best, even if everyone else thinks that it’s bad because like they know better than someone as stupid as Socrates you know?”
“If you don’t believe in a soul, then you’re inherently evil. If you are a materialist then you are a moron who has no morals and should be converted to Jesus.”
“If you believe in a soul, like CHRISTIANS do then you should be laughed at and shot, because there is empirical evidence that there is no God.”
If there is ever more, you shall hear of it, rest assured. I just can’t believe how absolutely stupid these people can be. And this is just with PLATO for fuck’s sake. I can’t wait until we discuss the other things we’ve read. -_-
As for the one who said that there is empirical evidence that God does not exist, he/she should not be in a philosophy class to begin with. Philosophy is for the debate of logistics and theology, as well as metaphysics and spirtuality. Such courses should not be taken by the over-religious, highly-opinionated, and incredibly-ignorant sort; pretty much anyone I ever met in college, if my memory serves me right. I took philosophy for my parapsychology major.
I assume this is a college course? Most high schools do not teach philosophy.

Ooh boy… I just had my Modern Drama class and apparently there was a line (in passing) about the Mississippi River flooding in New Orleans in “The Little Foxes” (the play we read) and so someone said this:
“Well, like, they said that they didn’t pay attention in the play, like, to the remark about New Orleans flooding… so like, it’s just like now because they didn’t pay attention when the government told them to move out of the city. Like, how could they be so STUPID?”
Me: “A lot of them didn’t have cars so they couldn’t move out. A lot of them would have had trouble getting out on their subsistance wage, such as the many people who worked for the fishing industry down there.”
Her: “Like, you totally don’t understand what I’m saying! Don’t you get it, like, it’s a literary parallel, and… and… you don’t have to be so mean and stuff by contradicting me.” Her eyes start to tear up

Lucky bastard, in my philosophy class all we did was get lectured to and if we had any questions the teacher would respond with “I do not understand what you mean” then move on with the lecture. I dropped after 3 weeks.
Me: Holden’s ordeal was, if you look at it in a certain light, quite similar to the allegory of the cave, where the man comes out and looks into the light and is blinded at first, symbolizing the struggle of transcending ignorance and becoming learned. Holden, I think, saw that light, but couldn’t stand the glare, so retreated back into the cave (the mental institution) and made his habitation therein.
Heh. Unlike Frame, I actually stayed in that philo class. It was an easy A. A as in Agony, but it’s also the grade I got. Not that the teacher was any help.
Anyway, viva la apathy, Generic. It’s not your job to cure people of their ignorance.
I actually kinda like explaining things to people though. Helps bolster up my superior attitude…
You people need proper philosophy class. I love our philosophy classes, since we have a really competent and great teacher and actually learn stuff there.
As for idiocy, I shall take notes in class tomorrow and post them ^^
