As you all know, the archive update is late. I mean, really late. As in, almost-a-year-after-the-last-one late.

The reasons for this are varied. For one thing, I was foolish enough to wait for Wil to finish his fic, thinking that he would be able to find the time to do so. I did not even begin to comprehend the sheer number of obligations that would certainly weigh upon a 40-year-old man with an active extended family and a full-time job. Next, a lost of the fics were either additions to previous works, or (in one case) a complete revision, forcing me to scramble to find the proper file names, as well as fic names in one case, since I had no idea where the first three chapters were. I had hoped to finish the update during Spring Break, but even then my time was swallowed up thanks to my family and their damn love of taking every vacation I have and turning it into “indentured servants” paradise. Then finals came, swallowing up even more time. And after that, my laptop died out, taking with it the entire archive.

Hence, this thread. This is simply an apology to everyone involved, and a stated promise that, if the late update is not done by the end of June, and the next update is not uploaded by the end of July, I’ll be leaving the archive behind. I simply cannot believe I allowed it to fall so far so quickly, especially after the prosperous times of Weiila’s absolute reign. So, that’s that.

Wil: Get to work. Seriously, I still want to see your fic ended, even if we have to keep your brain in a tank to do so.

Galloway, I fully understand what a bitch the fanfic archive is to handle. Trust me, I know. And I feel that I may have left you alone for too long in this, as well. You don’t have to do this on your own, feel free to ask me for help when you’re looking for files and continuations. I shouldn’t have left like that and just dumped everything on first TD, then Starstorm, Val and you. The fanfic archive is huge and especially with all the incomplete fics it’s not something that should have been just up and left-ed to people who didn’t have a chance to get familiar with stuff first.

First of all, feel free to come screaming at me for allowing so many incomplete fics in.

Second, also feel free to ask for help. I’m heading for a pretty lazy summer right now, I’ll be available for support if you need it.

Third, if some fic gives you trouble by being lost or taking too long to finish, drop it. Apologize to the author, ask them to send a new copy, whatever. But bluntly put, no single fic should be hinging up the update, sometimes you need to make decisions that may not feel right and you know some authors won’t like.

Fourth, I have full faith in you. I always hoped that you would take over the fanfic archive, because I knew that you loved it as much as I did, and judging from the amount of fics you wrote, I knew you had the drive and resolve to do this kind of thing. I still believe in you. :dancer:

The fanfiction community at large NEEDS fanfic archives like this. I let through a lot of crap I shouldn’t have, but that was because I was waaay too lenient. But, even when that happened, this is still a moderated archive. There is quality control. It’s smaller, but it’s worth one hell of a lot more in terms of quality than fanfiction.net. Here, we won’t ever see summaries like

SepxOC What happens when a misplaced wish brings chaos? Love! Because of a lonely girl’s wish, Sephiroth is under her spell to do anything she wishes… but what does he want

Bitchy!Weiila: Cut her head off? Sadly, that’s probably not what’s going to happen. How is it love when HE’S BRAINWASHED?

This is one of those person comes to real life blah blah blah. BUT most people think I’m high on caffiene when I make these chapters so maybe it’s better than it sounds. You won’t know until you read it so READ IT AND LEAVE A REVIEW! A plot has developed

It’s a Chrono Trigger fic. Yeah. No, Really.

Anyway, this is what I’d assume to see at ff.net. And because of that, we need more small archives like this, where readers with some sanity left can enter and know that they can expect quality. It’s a bastion against the rabid fangirls.

Gallo: First of all, thanks for the support. One correction: I don’t have a stable job (I WISH!) I work when I find work to do, which is why my freakin’ schedule is so unpredictable. And yeah, I understimated how busy my life would get too.

I had no idea you were waiting for ME to finish RPGC 2005 before making the update. I would’ve told you to go ahead and make it, because I had NO idea when I was going to finish. Heck, go ahead and make the update now without me. Or archive what I have posted under the title “Part one”. (In fact, I’m planning on making a catch-up section anyway, before continuing.)

And if you’re wondering why I haven’t started already, it’s because my loved ones have gone back to squeezing favors out of me again. It’s SUMMER, dammit, isn’t everybody supposed to be on vacations?? But at least THIS time I have reached a decision…

…I’m NO LONGER going to continue allowing all of my free time to be eaten up by my relatives. From now on, I’m helping one each day, TOPS. So if I’m babysitting Luis, Ulp will have to look for someone else to help him that day, etc. I’ve kind of felt bad about doing that because I spend my free time doing things like writing fanfics, But DAMN, if that’s what makes me happy then my loved ones should understand it, no? If I manage my time well I can still help everybody, they’ll just have to learn to be a little more patient about it.

So, yeah, I will continue this story and FINISH IT if it kills me! (And then, you can put my brain in a tank to continue writing forever. :smiley: )

d, your efforts for RPGC, as a writer and archiver, have always been enjoyable and appreciated. Please continue (but only as long as you feel like it. Remember: our personal happiness HAS to come first!) And if you ever decide to stop, the only thing the rest of us can say is… thanks for everything!
