Sephiroth wasnt killed by Cloud in Nibelheim, Cloud merely tossed Sephiroth into the Lifestream, where then drifted to the North Crater. What you were following was merely a projection(or something) of Sephiroth, not his physical self.
I’m not really sure why people are so obsessed with him. My reasons are that he uses the extreme version of my favourite weapon (katana), and he looked so cool walking through the flame, in the flashback.
