While not big news to RPGs (unless you’re a big fan of Neverwinter Nights), Infogrames quietly officially changed their name to Atari today. That means that that Dragon Ball Z Legacy of Goku 2 game will be published by Atari (we all know I’m a big DBZ fan…), but it also means that some of my favorite games (read: Civilization) will be published by Atari in the future. Since I am a classic gamer, I love the idea of seeing that fuji all over the place again. It’s been nice seeing it on Infogrames’ bigger games over the last year, but it’ll be even better to see it on all of their games from now on.
Anyway, I know it’s not big news, but I am a fan of that fuji symbol, so it’ll be nice to see it in use again.
Ah… the return of a legend Just as long as they can re-create the old Atari magic, I’ll be a very happy person indeed (remembers old nights wasted on the VCS (when 2 years old))
While I’m also a big fan of classic companies like Atari or Commodore, I don’t think its a good idea from Infogrames. To re-release new versions of classic games under the label Atari might be ok, but in my eyes I consider the name Infogrames with better/newer quality games than with Atari. Besides that, Atari, became a looser-company/name in the early 90’s.
It wasn’t a remake of that ET game. To quote the creator of the game Howard Scott Warshaw (from his G4 commercial spot):
“I created Yar’s Revenge, and E.T. Yar’s Revenge is one of the greatest games of all time. E.T… is the worst game of all time.”
I think Infogrames has the right idea with this. Outside of Europe, most gamers don’t know who Infogrames is, much less how to pronounce it (for the record, it’s IN-FO-GRAHM"). Atari is much more well known, and to anyone who’s not a hardcore gamer, people don’t remember their downfall. Besides, recent games like Neverwinter Nights, Splashdown, Enter the Matrix, Ikaruga, and Stuntman were all already released under the Atari label, and it didn’t hurt Infogrames, it actually helped boosts sales (at least of Stuntman, Test Drive, and Splashdown).
And I still have my C64. And I still play classics like Alf and Jumpman on it. Cause it rules.
Another possible reason: Infogrames released Legacy of Goku, if I’m not mistaken. That game sucked so much, they’d HAVE to change their name to stay in business! AND I PREDICT THAT LEGACY OF GOKU 2 WILL SUCK EVEN MORE!!!
Gallo, they also released Civ3 and UT03. That more than makes up for LoG, and if you went into a DBZ game expecting it to rock you deserved such a fate |-P
Wow. I agree with every single word X just said. EVERY ONE. He dissed DBZ, and touted Civ3 all in one happy little post. X, if my girlfriend wouldn’t think it were weird, I’d kiss you.

Whoever said that I expected DBZ games to rock? They almost all suck, damnit! I’m even a DBZ fan, and I hated LoG! The REAL problem comes from the hordes and hordes of DBZ fanatics, who soon realized that the game sucked and began to hunt down Infogrames so they can kill them all for ruining DBZ forever.
Anyway, Infogrames/Atari has released good stuff (Galactic Civilizations, Neverwinter Nights), REALLY good stuff (Civ3, UT03), and really shitty stuff (LoG, MoO3). And remember, these are the people who published Asterix.
Just keep all that in mind.
