What where the most popular/favourite? ‘your’ top pick/favs released?

Many thanks.

No, the Mega Drive was made by Sega in the late 70’s/early 80’s before Nintendo became popular. It was released back when the Atari was huge, and was not the prototype for the Genesis.

As far as the popularity contest is concerned, no, the SNES pretty much won that. Some good RPGs for it are the Phantasy Star series, although I’m completely unfamiliar with them. I’ve never played a Genesis game besides Sonic, so I don’t really know anything about it either. But all the good games are on the SNES anyway.

That better be sarcasm.

It’s not. He asked, before he edited his post to remove it, whether or not the Genesis was also the Mega Drive. The release date is kind of a guess, but I know it came before the Genesis and I think before the NES. It was a huge thing with a ton of peripherals.

Sega Master System

Edit: One genesis game appealed to me, just one… Beyond Oasis.

The Sega Megadrive IS a PAL version of the Genisis. I’ve played Genisis Games (Madden/NFL?) on a Megadrive. No Mod’s anywhere.

I just played sonic on quite a bit

The Mega Drive is the JP/EU Genesis. The Master System came before the Genesis, but not before the NES. Before the NES, Sega licensed out their games to Parker Bros. for release on ColecoVision (and later Atari and Intellivision). In Japan, the Genesis didn’t sell for shit. In America, though, Genesis was very clearly winning the popularity wars for a very long time (despite my better efforts to the contrary). Nintendo fans to this day never see it (including myself, unless I actually look at sales figures from the day), but Genesis outsold Super Nintendo for a very long time. The “Mortal Monday” incident only sped up that process. Nintendo finally turned the tide when “3D” games like StarFox and Donkey Kong Country came out. At the end of the system’s lifecycle, it’s US sales finally caught up to, and exceeded, the Genesis.

I notice you have Ys III on your list twice. Is that a typo (since you have it listed subtitle first at one point), or do you mistakenly think it’s two different games? Either way, the Genesis version had some cool takes on the music (considering the Genesis’ terrible sound card), but was a pretty bad take on the game other than that. Heck, the game itself is pretty bad (and this is coming from a huge Ys fan). I’d track down the TCD version of Ys III for the hard-rock remixes of the music before I’d ever play it on SNES/Gen again…

Langrisser 2 has a grounds up, improved remake on SNES called Der Langrisser. It is partially translated at the moment (as in only one story path reaches the end of the game with all of the script translated); however, a full translation patch is VERY close to being completed; the script editing is all that’s left (and they finally got started on it, so it’ll be done any time now).

If you like Langrisser you might also want to try Shining Force one and two, their engines are similar and they are excellent games in their own right.
