So the NFL kicked off its season last night with New England Patriots vs. Oakland Raiders. It was a great game. The defending Superbowl Champions took it 30-20 final.
The Pats looked a little shakey in the begining though. They gave up a TD in the first drive of the game. That is the first time in 31 games (37 including post-season) that the Pats have given up a TD in the opening drive. But they came back and the defense stepped it up a bit. If it weren’t for a couple lucky catches by Moss, it would have been more of a blowout.
One interesting thing to note is that the Patriots have no Offensive Coordinator. Since Charlie Weiss is now the head coach for Notre Dame, they have no OC. And they didn’t replace him either. Brady and Belichick are splitting the role of OC, which is crazy. Tom Brady is the man.
So who else is psyched about the new football season? I know I am. I can’t wait to watch the Patriots become the first team in NFL history to win the Superbowl three times in a row.
I now present an excerpt from the H.A. Collection…
THE GOSPEL OF FOOTBALL By John Woodlee
Do you believe in the gospel of football?
I do.
Jesus loves football.
Tackle the football, Jesus.
Tackle that football.
Don’t them boys know how to run?
Run, football, run!
(credit to some guy named Tennessee who loves him some futbaul)
Our local team has just reached the premiership, which might be good news for them, but since they keep losing their matches my Dad is always grouchy. Although they won today, which is good I guess. The rest of my family are all rugby fans, even though the local rugby team, although once the champions, are now doing poorly.
I’m not really interested in football myself, I just wanted to turn this thread into a real football discussion as opposed to a silly American one, where the ball nary touches the foot.
American soccer is what most, if not all, know as football. However, in America we call the sport with the round black and white ball soccer and the one with the pgiskin football. It’s just one of those things where we have different words than other countries, it doesn’t make either right or wrong.
As for the topic, I watched some of the game. I’ve been a Patriots fan for years (since McGinest got onto the team) so I’ve liked these past 2 years. As much as I’d like the Patriots to win it 3 years in a row, I don’t see it happening.
