Just this weekend, after a week of skipping every second day, I finally decided to stop taking antidepressants every morning. I’ve had depression for a long time now, but I think I can finally get over it and live a normal life without the help of meds. 8)
Anyway, I’ve been feeling abnormally tired these past few days. Does anyone know if there are any “withdrawal” effects? Would fatigue be one of them? And does anyone else here take medication to help them cope?
I was on antidepressants for a while but I don’t remember any kind of fatigue. I guess just getting some more sleep for the next couple of days will help and if not then you could probably see your doctor again.
But that’s cool, a life without meds is a god thing indeed. Congrats.
Personaly, I am very much against antidepressants, and Prozac is the worst of them all.
If you’re depressed, there are better things you can do. Talk to people, for one. Depression isn’t a disease that can be cured with pills. All the pills do is make you forget you’re depressed.
If you wanna take 'em anyway, be my guest, but there ARE better ways.
A little more than halfway down is withdrawal symptoms. WebMD is an awsome place for anything health related. I used it alot when studying nutrition =)
Withdrawal Unlike a few other antidepressants, Prozac produces no withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking it. Because of its long half-life, you can stop taking Prozac abruptly without complications. However, some doctors suggest you taper off your doses and closely watch for any indication of a relapse. If you begin to feel lethargic, have low moods, or experience appetite or sleep problems, your depression could be returning. These are not the symptoms of any sort of withdrawal. If it is your depression returning, you can start taking Prozac again and it should work as well as it did before. Unfortunately, some people do experience depression again and again. Because of the underlying biological component of depression, there’s at least a 50-percent chance you may experience another episode. For those who’ve already had two episodes, the chances of a third jump to about 90 percent. Therefore, for cases of recurrent depression, experts today sometimes recommend taking Prozac indefinitely to prevent future occurrences.
Seems alot of people on this board are/were on some kind of anti-depressant (I myself am bipolar and formerly on lithium).
I wonder if its that people are prescribed medication too quickly and too often? It has long been my contention that modern doctors are too quick to put people on medication without actually trying to Help thier patient. They use drugs as a cop-out.
I am more of a natrual/alternative medicine person. I believe in the healing power of foods and alternative practices such as acupuncture and meditation. I took myself off lithium AMA after I cleaned up my diet and my lifestyle. Now I am medication free and in much better shape (Physcially and mentally) then I have ever been in my life.
I dunno, I just think medication is too often prescribed and as many people here have seemed to find out, is unecessary (Noticed alot of people are no longer on meds).

Oh and btw, Gratz dalton =) [/b]
People want the fast answer and don’t care so much if it’s the best, hence doctors proclivity to dispense prescriptions so freely. Then there’s also the overdiagnoses of conditions like ADHD and such.

So true, it seems that anyone who hyper or the slightest problem paying attention has ADHD. Perhaps they are just…kids? I was a hyper kid - doesnt mean I had ADHD, but doctors dont seem to care.
Good point about people wanting a fast answer. I personally would rather have a cure than a “patch”, but thats just me =)
