Graphics appear to be the same, and I believe you get extra classes after beating it and in the bonus dungeon not there yet. That said, enjoying it, really quite fun and some of the lines put such a smile on my face. Though the character portraits are a source of annoyance to me. the sprite of galuf clearly shows a beard. not so with portrait. Cid clearly has glasses, again not so with portrait.
As for DS rpgs, some are coming out. there is a mana series game out, and maybe a handful of others too. i need to get me a DS at some point too.
What I want to know is if there’s time to enjoy (and Level-up) the new classes in the game before the end, or if you have to go to the new dungeon to do it. Also: any difference in the story? I heard somewhere that X-Death is now supposed to be the same person as Ennuo, the first person who tried to harness the power of the Void. I don’t think that’s accurate, I remember X-Death being surprised when The Void ended up possessing HIM which would not have been a surprise if he was the original wielder of that power. Or did I misread the original text?
You get 3 of the hidden classes at the end of world 3, after unsealing all 12 weapons. Necromancer can only be obtained by beating Enuo at the end of the bonus dungeon, which also unlocks a boss rush mode.
That leaves the Cleft Dimension and the New Dungeon to explore and build te new jobs up- except for the Necromancer. Unless the dungeon can be tackled before the Cleft Dimension. When is it available, exactly?
Ah, and if Ennuo is one of the new bosses, then I guess he can’t be X-Death after all. Thanks for clearing that up. And what’s a “Boss Rush” mode?
You can’t actually do anything in the bonus dungeon till after the credits roll, but you get to look at it and wonder about it at the end of world 3. Boss Rush mode is an area of the bonus dungeon where you fight buffed up versions of about a dozen bosses, and is the only thing left to do after completing the rest and building up necromancer.
Any particular theme or sound? my copy sounds fine. Could be a problem speaker? I can recall how my GBC’s speaker was horrible, almost unhearable and rather crackly.
FFV sounds great on my DS. In fact, I like what the music sounds like on my DS a LOT more than when I played it on an emulator. I have an occasional glitch in 1%-ish of fights where the battle music won’t all load so it’ll be missing a layer but that goes away at the end of the fights.
What’s the difference between having the “Red” skill as opposed to having “White” and “Black”? (I mean, besides obviously being one skill instead of two separate ones.) And does Dualcast have any disadvantages?
Red can only cast spells up to level 3, while black and white both go to level 6. white and black also give larger int and mp boosts i think. That said, esuna aside, for the longest time your highest level spells will be level 3. Dualcast disadvantage…I dunno, probably that you can only use spells you have access too, meaning at max you can only use 2 types of magic with it as a mimic.
Tha said, me love faris as a red mage. Back up healer and magic user, and if given two-handed, a very, very decent fighter as well.
I’m almost convinced about buying FFV Adv now- even if the new stuff isn’t that great, I love the game and wouldn’t mind an excuse for replaying it. Problem is, I just bought Kirby: Nightmare on Dreamland for my nephew Luis’ birthday (he’s 6 now!) and I lent him my Game Boy Advance so he could play it until “Santa Claus” brings him his own. So I guess I won’t be playing it until next year.
One thing I did on FFV was split the class evenly between the characters. Anyone else did that, or was everyone obsessed with gaining all (or at least the important) abilities for all characters? The combinations can be fun. I gave Bartz all the Fighter-like Jobs, Reina all the Mage jobs, Faris all the Thief Jobs and Galuf/Kryle the rest. In another play-thru I switched them around (Bartz was the mage and Reina the Fighter, for example) but that didn’t work as well. I’m not sure what combination to use next time… any ideas?
I do the same thing on my playthroughs - until the end. Then I just max out allof them for te hell of it.
My sister uses a very… interesting method, though. She assigns people job classes based solely on what Crystal they are aligned with. Since Bartz is aligned with the Wind Crystal, she teaches him all six ofthe initial abilities. She ceats a little - like, everyone gets whitemagic up to the third level - but overall, they master their element. It’s rather unique.
Huh, I just went to my local Electronics Boutique to buy the guide for FFV GBA but they didn’t have it; I tried KB toys as well but they didn’t even have the game! That’s odd, they usually come out here at the same time as in the States. That happen to anyone else?
BTW I have decided I’ll master the cheapest Jobs (in terms of AP cost) first in my next playthru (again, splitting the Jobs among the characters) which will probably result in a random mix of Jobs for each character. I might also limit myself to using each learned ability (in the second ability slot) until a new one is learned. That’ll result in even more variety… though if I find myself having too much trouble, I’ll abandon the second idea.
I’ll also sell any pieces of equipment I get, keeping only one of each. That way, when the characters change Jobs they’ll always be equipped with a different combination of items each.
interesting. I’m actually trying to go out of my way to get four of each equipment type (ditching after it’s replaced by better/weapon/armor) in the off chance that my characters are all using a class or something. Just a useless time waster to steal from enemies and get drops. Though i’ve noticed something bout stealing, sometimes if 2 items are listed, your never, ever, gonna get he rarer of the two. Either a glitch or a unreasonable rarity.
Actually, more than 2 types. X-Magic has access to your magic list as a mimic, so if you have X-Magic, Blue and Summon…well, you can dualcast Black/White up to lv3, Blue spells and Summons.
A technique that I used in job leveling was to learn based on the required ABP to reach the next Job level. It makes thing interesting based on the versitlity of the characters and it makes more of the weapons interesting. It also shows how useful each class is and even in what period in the game does it shine or suck the most.
