I won’t lie. I do mean to be an ass. The most exciting Stanley Cup final in thirteen years is taking place, and most of you are focused on two hour, one-goal, round robin soccer games. I think most of you could be having more fun than you are.
I kind of want Carolina to win because there are a lot of vets on that team who have never won a cup, but I also want Edmonton to take it because that would be the greatest comeback of all time, and they have big shoes to fill from the past.
I’m rooting for the Canadian team, myself. I don’t love Edmonton, but but I’d choose them over the Hurricanes any day.
Although, a lot of Carolina’s lineup were all originally from Canada anyway, aren’t they? Seems like it would be a win for Canada either way, depending on how you look at it.
They were trailing 3-1. Oilers lost 4:5, then 0:5, won 2:1 and then lost again 1:2.
If the Oilers go on to capture the cup on Monday, they will be the first team since the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs to win after trailing 3-1
Ha ha, funny! It’s been hockey crazy around here lately, even more so than when Carolina made it to the finals with Detroit a couple of years ago. Seriously, it’s wild! I’d like Carolina to win just so I can see what sort of crap people will organize here to celebrate (and I’m kinda laughing about the Raleigh honchos being pissy about all the downtown construction preventing them from showing off our oh-so-super-duper city at a prime time, whee).
Lol. It’s not like location makes a damn bit of difference. Carolina is owned by the Royal Bank of Canada and is made up almost entirely of Canadian players
Ok, To all you nonbelivers, since I live in Raleigh, you all have no clue of what its like, unless you live in Edmonton (BOOO, losers). People are like crazy here. Hurricanes stuff everywhere (someone even put a Canes jersy on a statue downtown at the capital building.) The other night when they lost, like everyone around here was moping around the day after. And I swear, monday, like half of Raleigh will camp outside of the place they play in. It will be a madhouse, regardless of the results.
This entire city is ecstatic right now. It’s really amazing to see every second person in Oilers garb, and people regardless of age are all united in cheering for Edmonton. If we complete this comeback, I fully expect Whyte Ave. to go up in flames. The police will have their hands full, but a riot would probably be inevitable.
We actually don’t need another cup. The Oilers have been in the NHL for about 25 years, and they have won 5 Stanley Cups and had the last real dynasty in the league. This would really be important for a new generation of fans, especially ones my age, as I was still in a womb in 1990.
And you can’t fault the fans in Raleigh. They have been excellent, especially compared to Anaheim’s supporters. That franchise will probably be one of the first to be contracted.
Yay. The streak of non-Canadian located teams winning the Cup continues.
Oh, and Hades, I looked it up, and some Detroit native owns the Hurricanes. Yeah, they play at the RBC Center, but RBC doesn’t own the arena. They’re just the corporate sponsors.
Nice to see, after all those series that went one sided and ended in 4 and 5, that we finally got a nice seven game finish to the playoffs this year.
And the only reason I’ve been watching mucho World Cup and missed the Stanley Cup Finals almost in its entirity (a fact which I’m quite unpleased with) is very simple:
World Cup: In Germany. Live broadcast of games in the morning.
Stanley Cup: In North America. Live broadcast of games in evening prime time.
Kaiser: Stuck working evenings.
Therefore: World Cup (Which I enjoy watching) on in the morning when I can watch it. Stanley Cup (Which I also enjoy watching) on in the evening when I can’t be around to watch it.
Believe you me, Hades, I’d love to be talkin Stanely Cup finals with you right now as well as talkin’’ World Cup with the folks in the other thread. But I’ve seen almost nothing (save for Edmonton stayin’ alive in overtime in game Five; eerily familiar to this Sharks fan :D, especially after they went on to pull even in the series after that). So there’s really nothing for me to say about the Stanely Cup finals this year other than dang, I missed most of it. Glad to know it went seven, and good to see Brind’amour finally get some hardware, so to speak. Nothin’ else really to contribute, I’m afraid.
If the Oilers go on to capture the cup on Monday, they will be the first team since the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs to win after trailing 3-1
So, the Leafs kept their record of winning the Cup after trailing 3-1 intact.
In any case, it was an exciting finale to an exciting season, especially after a year of hockey “starvation”
