FFL2, About Monsters

Ok, so I don’t know WHAT came over me, but I just felt like playing FFL2 again. I’m now gaining experience in the Giant’s world.

So, this is my first time playing with a Monster, and I’m not very well-versed on what monster meats make which monsters. My current monster is Babywyrm, but its kinda becoming…well, inefficient now. It’s only got about 80 HP, so every attack it takes brings it within about 10 HP of death, and it can only do single person attacks, for about half the damage of my Human. So, yeah, it’s getting kinda crappy.

Anyways!

  1. Does anyone know what the best monster I can have at this time is, and how to get it?

  2. Does anyone know what monsters are good to have at what times?

  3. Any tips for using monsters that could help me out?

Thanks.

Hey there! It’s been a while since I’ve played this game, but let me try and help you out. I’d use the shrine here, but it’s not really high-quality. It doesn’t even have a walkthrough. O_o

Anyway, here we go!

  1. Does anyone know what the best monster I can have at this time is, and how to get it?

I think Amoeba or Ammonite are good monsters at the time. I think I remember having an acid attack that does a good amount of damage, or a Bolt attack that hits all.

  1. Does anyone know what monsters are good to have at what times?

Not really too much. I hear Oni is a nice one to have for a while, but it’s usually just a matter of observance. There’s a chart at Gamefaqs, but I really don’t understand it. Sorry. 8(

  1. Any tips for using monsters that could help me out?

Yes. Take into account what the enemies will be in the area you’re heading out to. I’ve run into situations where my only option was to cast spells that had little or no effect on the enemy. Try go bring the enemies’ weakness with you to save attacks and make the battles easier.

That’s all I can do to help, sorry. I haven’t played the game in a year or two, and I didn’t even beat it then; I couldn’t get past Edo.

By looking up the Monster Evolution Chart, I managed to come up with a way to get the most powerful monsters in the game, (preferably) as early as possible. Here is one if you start with the Baby-D monster:

  1. Eat the Were-Rat monster in Ashura’s World to become a Sprite. Her powerful thunder and cure abilities will serve you well.
  2. Eat an O-Bake meat in Venus’s World to become a Crab (it’s weak, but you’ll thank me later).
  3. Eat the Hermit meat in the Sewer to become a Gazer. It’s Beam attack is especially useful against Venus.
  4. Eat the Watcher meat in the Dragon Race to become a Nymph (it has ice, thunder, cure, whirl (a powerful non-elemental ability similar to flare), and sleep).
  5. Eat Sleipnir’s meat after the Odin battle to become one of the monsters you’ll face in Central Shrine (the last area in the game). I forgot to look up what monster it is, but by eating various monster meats, you can find the monster you need through trial and error. An enemy with Stone (Specter, Rock, DemoLoad, Evil Eye) is good for using against WarMach (you can petrify it). For Apollo, a monster with a non-elemental magic attack is preferable (Evil Eye, Garuda, Roc, Sylph, Scylla).
  6. Eat TianLung’s or Fenrir’s meat to become the fifth level monsters. Good monsters for fighting Arsenal and staying alive are Beholder, Titania, Kusanagi, and SlimeGod.
