Any band’s people here would like to consider their favorite and such??
Here we go!!
Blink 182 (Punk/ Alternative)
Nirvana (Grunge)
My Chemical Romance (Emo)
The Killers (Alternative)
RadioHead (Slow Alternative)
The Used (Alternative with a dash of angst to it)
I have no order as they all hold different components to rock. So I can’t really say I like MCR better than The Killers because MCR is an Emo band as The Killers are basic Alternative. But if I was to put it short in categories, Say just Alt. then it’d be…
New metal: SoaD, drowning pool, Static-x, soulfly, In flames (yes I count them to that by now), disturbed, deftones, dope, exilia (check em out!)
Metalcore: chimaira <3
death/ grind/ gore/ …: Exhumed, mortician, cannibal corpse, bleed the sky, darkthrone, enslaved, exodus, morbid angel (<3)
hatebreed, fuck I’m dead
gothic metal: dornenreich, leaves’ eyes, atrocity,
Melodic/ symphonic death metal: dark tranquility, arch enemy,
black metal: marduk, anorexia nervosa, immortal, slayer, mayhem, behemoth, burzum
progressive: opeth
whew.
Now for the other stuff. Starting with gothic:
Gothic rock: murderdolls/ wednesday 13. <33333 I LOVE this shit.
gothic… uh…kinda- rock: Laibach, Gothminister, Death star, Moonspell (like them very much), lacuna coil
mainstream: within temptation, cruxshadows, type o negative, placebo
weird psychidelic goth shit: cinema strange.
industrial/ electronic kinda gothy stuff: BlutEngel, e nomine, project pitchfork, NIN
folk/ medieval: schandmaul, faun, asrai, qntal, subway to sally
melodic: tori amos, rasputina, lacrimosa, xandria, zeraphine, die form
And now stuff you mgiht actually know
rock: nirvana, the donnas, aerosmith
indie: garbage, the killers, Muse
techno/ trance: various. no prefrences, though the chemical brothers lately
punk: plot to blow up the eiffel tower, rancid
various mainstream: green day, papa roach
Thats the gist of it. I got a lot more stuff but those are mainly my favorites, sorted by genre, picked by mood.

SoaD,
My Chemical Romance,

Actually, although Emo and Goth came off of punk music, I wouldn’t call Emo and Goth similar at all. If you take the roots of Emo (Rites of Spring, Jawbreaker, et cetera) and the roots of Gothic rock (Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, et cetera) you can’t tell me they sound anything like one another. Now for pop “Emo” and “Goth,” you might have a case, because most of the subgenres of pop punk (excepting New Wave) sound the fucking same.
As for my favorite bands, I’d have to go for:
Misfits (Deathrock) Zombina and the Skeletones (Poppy death rock)
Behemoth (Blackened death)
Dead Kennedys (Hardcore punk)
Death in June (Neofolk)
Against Me! (Acoustic punk)
Iced Earth (Heavy metal)
Ministry (Industrial metal)
Gravediggaz (Horrorcore)
45 Grave (Deathrock)
Bob Dylan (Folk)
Cattle Decapitation (Goregrind)
NWA (Gangsta Rap)
Oingo Boingo (New Wave)
Rage Against the Machine (Rap Rock)
The Doors (They’re the fucking Doors, man! :-P)
Many, many others… but I’d rather not list them right now.
I hate to get all elitist on you, but I have to make some corrections. Darkthrone, Exodus and Hatebreed aren’t death metal or grindcore! Darkthrone is black metal, Exodus is thrash, and Hatebreed is hardcore… and bad hardcore at that! And as for Slayer being in black metal… tsk tsk. They’re thrash. how is Slayer black metal!!! how???
I’ll list some favourite bands:
Led Zeppelin
Venom
Pink Floyd
Megadeth
The Doors
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Jimi Hendrix
The Cure
Ministry
Throbbing Gristle
Deep Purple
Slayer
Anthrax
Death
Cryptopsy
Immortal
Exodus
The Beatles
Necro
Bwahaha I knew you’d jump at my throat for this
note I said “…” I didnt really know where to put hatebreed, how fucking darkthrone slipped in there I dunno either, I know it’s black I dunno what it’s doing there oO; And exodus stays death, kill me for it but I say so! You’re not gonna change my mind on that one. Slayer… I dunno everyone says something else. oO; I dunno I’d call them thrash myself but I saw so many put them under black :o But Exodus? I dont care what anyone says there!
Yes! They’re good. I like them. And I agree with your views on the emo/ goth thing. neo- emo is a cancerous mutant of mainstream gothic stuff, and ‘neo’- pop- punk of punk And Death in Jun rock.

I’m leaving out rap stuff since the topic is bands. I know I’m forgetting some though.
A music group is pretty much the equivelent of a band. They are both groups of people making music. So why be snotty about it and tell me I’m wrong?
And correct me if I’m wrong, but as Elton John plays the piano, explain to me the drum beats and the guitar riffs in his songs. Oh, that’s right - he has a band too!
