Dragon Quest V

There are two more boards. The second one is in the casino in the central sea, which you need a boat to get to. The third one is when you regain access to Faerie Lea. They get harder as time goes on, and offer more rewards from just the board, too.

Update time.
Beat it.

Had to sit though one of the worst cases of 1337 speak in recent memory. Also ended up catching a Snowbird and I was wrong about the hulagan’s max level. Also also found a fourth T ‘n’ T board with a grand prize of a minimedal, a T ‘n’ T freepass (let the board abuse begin), and something else I can’t remember at the moment.

All in all an excellent game (despite some flagrant ancient dialect abuse).

I might see what happens now for bonus content with the museum and bonus dungeons and then start setting up that Wiki. Otherwise I’m off to play me some
FE:SD. <.<

Edit: Discovered new area involving Lofty Peak in the first generation.

Progress: Ok, I don’t have much else to do now. Just got the Ultimate Key, so all I’ve got left at this point is the Emblem Cave (currently kicking my ass somewhat…monsters in there hurt!), go save my wife (and get Zenithian Armor), then head off to Nadiria, whatever it’s called. Gonna try and recruit an Archdemon while I’m in the Emblem Cave. They’re supposed to be pretty decent.

As for the tombola stuff, top prize is a gold pass/card, which nets you a 20% discount in shops. Useful towards the endgame where stuff gets expensive.

Also, the last T’n’T board is apparently in the Bonus Dungeon, though I think you gotta beat the boss in there before you can access it. Beating it nets you some special recruits.

How does one play Tombola.

The Tombola lady is in the basement of Whats-its-name Harbour’s Inn. You don’t get very good prizes, but very very very rarely you can get a shop card that gives you a discount at all the shops, which is awesome.

There are 60ish mini medals you can find lying around, the rest you need to get from monsters or the TnT boards.

There are 5 TnT boards in the game, but one you can only get to after you’ve finished. That one is so massive that you get 70 rolls of the die.

Monsters come in three levels of easiness to capture, which is mentioned in the Big Book of Monsters. Metal Slimes are in the ridiculously hard to capture category :frowning:

The absolute bestest best monster to get is a King Cureslime. Why? They start with 135MP and Omniheal! If you level it enough, you could basically cast Omniheal every round of every boss fight! They’re only found in the Stairway to Zenithia and they’re really hard to catch though :frowning:

Talking to your party members is totally awesome and should be implemented in more RPGs. They have comments about absolutely everything and everyone. Just hit B after talking to someone to get their take on it

Just for the fun of it, I married Debora this game. She reminds me a lot of Alena from DQIV, but with magic and less power. I still feel bad for not marrying Bianca though :frowning:

Aside from the gold card the next best thing you can win in Tombola is a prayer ring, and unfortunately for Tombola there are far better ways of getting those (like that mini-game in Debora’s room).

My one problem with party talk in this game is that you need humans in your active party to talk to which sorta discourages loading your entire party with monsters.

Also, while there is a T ‘n’ T free pass out there, I don’t recommend throwing out/selling your old tickets since there’s at least one point where you need one to upgrade one of your knick-knacks.

And speaking of Knick-Knacks…(Beware some massive spoilers ahead)

So far I’ve gotten 500G and some interesting scenes but somewhat disappointing. And obviously, I’m missing some information on the Knick-Knacks themselves as there are three that aren’t listed here and others that are lacking their preupgraded stats and so on.

What the hell do these knick knacks do anyway? I don’t understand.

As far as I can tell this is the closest thing to an immigrant town. Unfortunately aside from a pair of extra areas and an extra scene all you get is some chump change (now worth it thanks to the T ‘n’ T boards). After that I don’t know what it’s good for but it does fulfill a certain OCD itch when I did it.

Just finished the game, and I’m impressed. I thought it was a well-done game. But I’m not completely finished yet. Still have the Bonus Dungeon and 5th T’n’T board, and maybe getting the last Knick-Knack.

Speaking of the last knick-knack, Catas Trophy (took me a while to figure out the pun -_-) sounds like it’s gonna be a bitch to get since you have to beat Esturk within 15 turns. I guess you’re gonna get a nice sense of accomplishment for finishing up that museum. At least some of the Knick-Knacks act as equipment or semi-useful items.

As for really good monsters, Archdemons have really good skills and pretty strong, Golems are pure win (Meteorite Bracer = awesome), Killer Machines are apparently immune or resistant to a LOT of stuff (aside from being ridiculously strong to begin with), and Chimeras are worth picking up mid-game due to Multiheal and other skills.

I’ve had the flu since Wednesday, so I’ve had a lot of time to play… I still don’t feel all that great. :\ However, I won the 4th board last night and got the free pass. That totally made my day!

edit - So, I’m an idiot and turned off my game after I had almost finished clearing out the bonus dungeon. I also beat two metal king slimes in one battle! I was frustrated because of this - I was trying to get to the T’n’T board in the bonus dungeon, but the only doors I could see to get to it were locked. Did I completely miss something?

edit again - I’m an idiot.
