I’m getting into FPS’s more and I wish to replay the old Dooms. I was thinking about getting Doom collectors edition. I believe I wont have a problem playing it since my computer is only five years old. But do I need a joystick to play it? I remember playing with one but that was years ago and I’m not sure if it was required. Also what would I need to be able to play Doom 3 on this computer?
No, you don’t need a joystick. Heck, it seems kinda strange to use one for an FPS at all. Go for it.
For Doom3, I don’t have the specs off the top of my head, but if your comp is 5 years old its very likely a no.
Here is the specifications for doom 3

Well holy shit. I guess I’d just need to buy a newer computer. Damn. Guess I’ll have to get a job afterall. Shit. Oh well I’ll just get a fairly cheap one. I dont know how to check if I have that stuff anyway. Could I buy some stuff that would make Doom 3 playable on this computer or would I have to get a new computer?
Without knowing your systems’ specs, there is no way for us to give you a solid answer.
Actually, the game runs fine on my Athlon XP 1700+ (which, for the record, is a 1.46GHz processor). Heck, I can get 60 fps out of it most of the time. I’m only running a Radeon 9600, too. At least, the last time I played it it was fine. I had 512MB RAM then. Now I have 1.24GB RAM… I’m hoping it’ll still be fine.
Yes, but Saturn, is that computer 5 years old? He didn’t divulge his specs, but its unlikely a 5-year old comp will have the specs to do Doom 3. At best, he meets the minimum requirements.
If you do get a new comp or such over renewed interest in FPS, get Half-life2 and then later on Far Cry as well. Those are both awesome, too.
Yeah I’ve heard Half-Life is cool. I’m not sure how to check my system specs or else I’d tell you. But I’m almost 100% sure that Doom 3 wont work on here. I can just buy a new computer in a few months. In the meantime I’ll just play Doom 3 on the X-box since a freind who lives a few houses away has one.
Duct tape would be handy to play Doom 3 with too. OH BUT WAIT!
