It’s 17 minimum to donate, no parental consent needed. At least in PA.
I’ve given about 10 pints lifetime so far (didn’t donate much until I was 19 because I ran track/XC year-round in HS and it would have cut into training). Last weekend I went to give and for the first time ever my hemacrit was too low. Apparently I’m not eating enough meat (and iron-fortified breakfast cereals).
On a related note, anyone ever heard of the Japanese idea that blood type determines personality? Its like astrology to them… I’ll see if I can find some site that explains it.
(I don’t think it can be true, though, since I’m 0+, the most common type in America, and strange compared to others. But I guess everyone things that about themselves).
Thanks Curtis, I thought 0 was the rarest type. Judging from net sources that goes only for Greece (though I hesitate to trust my memory even on that, have to check it out).
:hyperven:It’s creepy, things like that always seem to be right on the money with me. I think whoever made those were witches or something. Burn the witch!
Astrology and symbolism is actually pretty itneresting to study. But I have a hard time accepting that there can be any sense of symbolism in blood type. It’s science, it’s pointless to make it seem mystical. Although, now that I think about it, even Astrology was consdiered a hard science back in the day…
Here’s a more detailed site. I’m into this personality stuff, that’s why I even know about bloodtype personality in the first place But I’m not sure about this theory, because it would mean I have the same essential personality as most Americans
