Setz: “Thought is a sense”
Oh, man the meals thread. That was a big “Hey! look at me!” waste of time.
Was Quina the one who made the thread about mashing all the FF’s into one game?
I nominate the TV show thread as a fail. I forget who made it but they wanted to write, shoot, edit and broadcast a new episode everyday.
I like to think realing Quina was dumb was sort of a universal point of agreement. A stanford applicant in Connecticut, art school student in Colorado, game design student, non-profit webmaster, Korean-living-in-Japan game designer who is that art student’s old friend’s boyfriend, it doesn’t matter, he still came off as stupid.
yeah something like that.
Lucky. I had to fucking talk With basara on AIM, because I was too fucking nice to tell him “I would call you retarded, but having grown up my whole life around kids with disabilities it would be an insult to them to put you in their class.” The stuff he talked about, I’ll never be able to forget. No, I’m serious, it was that moronic.
I don’t remember which one of you was it, I don’t think he’s around anymore, but I was once held up in MSN for like twenty minutes by a guy who kept talking about how he had converted to the worship of Freya and how awesome it was. I’m still trying to figure out if he was pulling my leg.
Hey! I worship Freyja! I don’t talk over IM about it, but what’s wrong with that, exactly? I’m going to give a guess that they were particularly flaky, though (most other pagans are).
He was VERY passionate about it. Like, Jehovah’s Witness passionate.
My guess is the problem must have lied with him/her being boring or preachy, not flaky.
edit: right guess, k.
Do serious neopagans believe the old myths about Thor wrestling Elli and whatnot? Or do they take those more as allegories? I’ve read about the Hellenistic religion treating their various myths as allegories and whatnot. I was just wondering if it was the same for Nordic pagans?
Also, is there a better term than pagan? I have no problem calling y’all pagans, but I would prefer a one word term that doesn’t require a modifier like “Hellenistic” or “Nordic” or whatever.
A Nordic Pagan I knew referred to himself as an Aesist, or something like that; I think some, at least, choose to go by some variation on their Pantheon’s proper name.
QUINA
I can so pitch/make an awesome Square-Enix FF Collaboration RPG!
That sounds like a good idea! Go for it!
Whatever floats your boat, man.
[Speech 28%]That’s terrible. Go die in a fire.
You have gained the Dream Crusher perk! You are now 50% less likely to be hit by a critical!
I am so positive that’s a reference to something I know nothing about.
Fallout 3.
984: That depends. Most want to be called Heathens, especially if they’re Asatru (traditionalist Nordic). As for literality? Varies from person to person. Most aren’t literalists, I recken. I’m not the best source of info because I’m solitary, and a follower of Loki.
Could have been my buddy comrade WP. I remember having this exchange about a year ago:
Nothing wrong with mixing a little bit of Marxism, a pinch of Heathenism, and a dash of Anarchism.
Right?
I worship Warren Buffet and Bill Gates – crème de la crème of modern capitalism – and yet, I still belong to the Little Octobrists organization, and proudly wear my badge.
A classic thread chock full of religious debate, epic fails, the Charlemagne quote in my sig, and a link to a page of an Indian dude who looks kinda like Burt Reynolds.
I present to you
That was a rather entertaining thread. I second your nomination. Mostly because of the sig worthy quote.
The local pagans did their first public rituals in Athens (the ones in Delphi -I think- have been going on for some time) about a year ago. It’s caused some interesting discussions on the nature of religion for sure, though they’re a marginal group.
