how do i get .mid files off my comp & onto my phone for free?
You can’t really. Even if you host them somewhere, then access them through your phone’s browser, you’ll still pay data transmission charges.
I bought a link cable for my phone, you might have one available for yours too. It was like 20USD.
would i still have to pay a transmission fee if i got the cable?
No, because then you’re not using their network/bandwidth to send the files.
I could d/l music from my dinky little free website, but my cell can surf the innernetz.
You’re probably gonna have to get a cable, but the price of that compared to the price of downloading all that stuff off a website is worth it.
I’ve wondered about this myself, like making ringtones and getting them onto my phone. Where are these sorts of link cables sold?
You can get them through your service provider. I go to asian malls where every third store is a tech store or a phone store.
I had my phone send a test e-mail to my e-mail account, and then sent those midi files to my phone via the e-mail address that the test came from.
Heh … I ought to get Ultimate Showdown onto my cellphone at some point. And when the Path of Neo soundtrack comes out, I’ll get its Burly Brawl theme.
It depends on your phone, some brands can have crap send through SMS/Text Messaging and that doesn’t cost any more then a text message would I believe. If you have a nextel phone, you’re pretty fucked. Guess what kind of phone I have.
i have a motorola, i just got it like 2 days ago but i dunno how new it is
You can lok up the model on the Motorola site and see if they have that feature.
hm, i talked to the verizon ppl closest to me & they said the only way i could do it is to buy the data cable hookup thing. i did try to send a 2kb .mid file to my phone as an email from gpryatel at yahoo.com to 10digitnumber at vtext.com but all that came thru was the txt
so next i looked into getting em on my own site & setting the phone up to dl from it. i did find this. has anyone ever tried it? would i still have to pay if i dl from my own site? would i get in trouble? lol…i’m nooob
It’s probably easier to buy the cable. Most providers will charge you for MMS.
went to the other verizon store, they said they have no music kit or office kit to handle xfer of music or contact list b/t comp & pc…both r seperate things u have to buy too of course. they said talk to motorola about it n see wat they got…um i think i’ll try that server thing n see how it goes o btw if i got a cable taht worked now it may not be compatible w my next phone. if my next phone wasnt motorola i’d be fucked…
Yeah that’s true. Different models will have different interfaces for the cable. But assuming your phone has Bluetooth and if you get a Bluetooth adapter for your comp you could transfer for free no problem. Also assuming that you get a Bluetooth enabled phone from now on, the hardware would still be useful.
But it does sound strange that transfering contact list and transfering music requires different hardware.
