Books! (Those papery things with words)

I just finished reading Diary by Chuck Palahniuk. It was great! I’d recommend it to anyone who can appreciate a dark sense of humor.

Before that I read the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy trilogy for the Nth time.

I think I’m going to pick up a Vonnegut book next. His books are always great.

What is everyone reading right now? Did you finish a book recently that impressed you? Lets hear it.

The Greek Key by Colin Forbes…very good detective novel.

The Darren Shan series is good for those who like the style of Harry Potter, but want something a bit more mature…vampire wars and stuff like that.

Some Sherlock Holmes stories… I think I’ve read all that’s considered canon now, anyway.

The last novel before that was Fahrenheit 451 I believe. The ending was much happer than I’d thought. Now I only need A Clockwork Orange to finish depressing myself?

Edit: Wait no, it was Jane Eyre

Oh god. I read A Clockwork Orange in high school. You need a frigging translator just to understand all the messed up slang they use. Just watch the movie, its better.

A bit of the ol’ ultraviolence, eh?

I haven’t read any books lately, but i might, I have about 18 sitting above me on my bookshelf, most of which i’ve read already, but I’ll probably read some others too.

The books I haven’t read yet:
Shadowmarsh by Tad Williams
Polaris by Jack McDevitt
Dragons of a Vanished Moon by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
Exultant by Stephen Baxter
The Fair Folk by Various Artists (Edited by Marvin Kaye)
The Duke’s Ballad by Andre Norton and Lyn McConchie
Dragonsblood by Todd MCcCaffrey
New Spring: The Novel (The Wheel of Time, In the Beginning) by Robert Jordan
Dragon’s Kin: A New Novel of Pern by Todd and Anne McCaffrey

Chronicles of Narnia, The Horse and His Boy specifically. Reading them in chronological rather than published order.

After that, I dunno. Probably Gulliver’s Travels.

Every book I’ve read by Robin Jarvis was awsome.

I haven’t been in a mood to read at all lately. Last one I read was in March. It was Ocean Sea by Alessandro Baricco. I actually thought it wasn’t very good.

I’m reading the last book of the Hitch Hikers, in a e-book format on my plam, wilst I wait in ques to discover that no-one wants a someone to look after there IT systems, unless I have a car, which is impossible, since I can’t leagaly drive for leraning Difficaltys.

I’m planning to read Harry Potter 6 in a fortnight

The Tale of Genji is my current long-term project. I just read A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L’Engle. I’ll probably pick up Many Waters on my next trip to the library.

I read thefirst chapter of The Haunting ( or is it just Haunting?) by Chuck Pahlaniuk. It seemed alright.

Currently reading “The Murder Room” by P. D. James. I’m not far into it, but I wouldn’t recommend it. She has trouble getting to the point. Her writing is filled with flowery drivel that should’ve been left out.

What I WOULD recommend is “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel or anything by Agatha Christie or James Clavell.

I think its just Haunting.

Have you read any other Palahniuk? I have read Fight Club, Lullabye, and Diary. I loved them all. I think he’s a great writer.

I think I should renew my lirbary card, I am tempted to find out about: När änglar dör - Andreas Roman and if in english.

Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next series (starting with The Eyre Affair). Amazingly original stuff.

As of late, I’ve been devouring Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files series (I made a thread 'bout it some time ago), and just the other day I polished off Robert Asprin’s Phule’s Company, which was quite good.

Recently found old copies of The Belgariade. Excellent series.

Anyone else waiting for the new Wheel of Time book to come out?

My Mate Craig, recomends this one The Shock of your Life. Chapter 1 is at http://www.theshockofyourlife.com/

Read Slaughterhousefive, by Kurt Vonnegut, or Breakfast of Champions by the same author.

My internet summer school has devoured most of my time, but I’ve been reading Roots and I’ve been floored with how much I enjoy it. You might be black, you might be white, but personally, I don’t think your ethnicity has anything to do with how much you can enjoy this book. I love it very much so.

I’ve only finished The Truth and The Fifth Elephant in Terry Pratcheet’s Discworld series, but I really liked them. I’d read those too. A black guy liking British humor, sounds strange I know, but it’s humor as much as it is wit. Plus…well, his just a really good author.
