As I was putting our puppy in the kennel (she’s not completely housebroken yet), a little black racer started skitting away. Taking the puppy with me, I closed the door and told my Mom. She called Dad to come home and kill it, but I didn’t like that. Would you want to go all the way back home just so you could kill a tiny snake for your chicken family? No!
So I decided to take manners into my own hands. At first, I wanted to somehow capture the snake with just a medium saucepan and its lid; but it kept going into attack formation, and I didn’t want to call my doctor to check out my tetnus shot records (for those who don’t live in Florida, Black Racers aren’t poisonous, but they are quick and nimble). So I covered the snake with the lid for now, and went to get more equipment: sneakers, oven mitts, and tongs (the kind you pick up food with). Somehow, I managed to pick up the lid so that only part of the snake could be seen. And then eventually, I grabbed him and put him into the saucepan. After that, I took him outside and set him free.
As for Dad, he got to vacuum and fix Mom’s printer, so his visit wasn’t a total waste.:get it?:

I don’t know black racers, but I guess I would pet it if I had done the same.

“Today, I woke up and didn’t know where I was. There was a lound resounding boom, and as I looked around, I saw the largest creature I’ve ever seen. I was startled at first, but the creature quickly ran off. I quickly got to looking for an escape, when it returned! It trapped me under a black sky, and everything went dark. I was scared. Then, out of the darkness, I felt something picking me up. I tried to move, but I couldn’t. It pressed against me with such force as I’ve never seend. Even now, I can still feel the spot it held me. I figured it was the end for me, but for some reason, I found myself back in an area I knew. Maybe it was just a dream?”

Edit: Just to tell you, the kennel is kept in the bathroom. My Mom’s disturbed because she might have showered with the snake (it was tiny enough to go through the drain).
