Just finished watching Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and it’s one of if not the best anime m- actually scratch that, it’s one of the best movies full stop I’ve seen in a while. The characters were original, the animation was superb, and the soundrack was suitably gothic-majestic as it neared the end.
And the actual ending, where the vampire and the girl ascend in the ship, with Layla cheering them on as the castle crumbles around them, was just beautiful.
Go watch it.
One thing though, was there an original VHD or something? I’ve seen it in amazon without the Bloodlust tag. Is that a different film?
Vampire Hunter D was the original, older movie. Bloodlust was the sequel. And, the sequel pwned its predecessor in terms of storyline, graphics and concept. So stick to Bloodlust
While it was indeed an awesome movie, I wouldn’t say it was terribly original. It consisted of a kidnapping that was all too predictable and smelled oddly enough of the many millions of Romeo-Juliet romances out there. The main character was stoic, cold and mysterious. And the leading lady was a no nonsense tough woman who is the last of her “kind” so to speak. It’s all been done before but in different ways.
However I did like the floaty guy-it’s been awhile since I watched it, but yes, he was my favourite.
<img src=“http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/tenchimaru/td.gif”> I really didn’t like the drawing style or the voices, that pretty much ruined it for me. Was an ok story though, I guess. The talking left hand was a nice touch.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the characters in Vampire Hunter D movies made by Amaro (sp?), the guy who designed characters for FF1-6 and 9?
I finally saw the first Vampire Hunter: D about a week ago. The whole thing stank of Castlevania. I don’t know which one came first, but that stench was still there. Now I can never play another Castlevania game without thinking of Vampire Hunter: D.
Also, what the hell is Japan’s obsession with Dracula? Let’s face it, that guy was a wuss. He’s all tough and mighty, but if someone throws a little bit of water on his face, waves garlic in front of him, or stabs him through the heart with a stake, he dies just like that. So pathetic…
