Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa

The Great B-Ball Purge of 2041, a day so painful to some that it is referred to only as the “B-Ballnacht”. Thousands upon thousands of the world’s greatest ballers were massacred in a swath of violence and sports bigotry as the game was outlawed worldwide. The reason: the Chaos Dunk, a jam so powerful its mere existence threatens the balance of chaos and order. Among the few ballers and fans that survived the basketball genocide was Charles Barkley, the man capable of performing the “Verboten Jam”…

Flash forward 12 years to the post-cyberpocalyptic ruins of Neo New York, 2053. A Chaos Dunk rocks the island of Manhattan, killing 15 million. When the finger is put on the aging Charles Barkley, he must evade the capture of the B-Ball Removal Department, led by former friend and baller Michael Jordan, and disappear into the dangerous underground of the post-cyberpocalypse to clear his name and find out the mysterious truth behind the Chaos Dunk. Joined by allies along the way, including his son Hoopz, Barkley must face the dangers of a life he thought he gave up a long time ago and discover the secrets behind the terrorist organization B.L.O.O.D.M.O.S.E.S.

The whole game is one big RPG parody from radical fanboy save points to aspergers being a status ailment. The dialog is ridiculous from an outsider’s view but the fact that the characters think it is all serious business makes the dialog all the more funny.

The gameplay is surprisingly solid and fun to play. It changes up standard turn based combat by adding in timing/action mini-games for every attack (think limit breaks). Each character has their own set of attacks that play out differently like timing at the height of the a jump or setting up an attack combo. If you’ve been wanting an SNES-style RPG that’s a bit more bite sized(a few hours long) and has a great “story” try the game out.

You can see a trailer to see more of the game here and see a list of download links here and a pics to enjoy

I watched the trailer for it on Youtube a few days ago. I was amazed and inspired.

Badass.

Despite the propaganda, we know Jordan was the better player.

I’d been waiting for that game to be done for a while. I haven’t played it, though. I want to.

This is brilliant. A++++

Apples and oranges. You can’t compare a swingman like Jordan to a bruising power forward like Barkley. If anybody, you should compare Barkley to Karl Malone.

Anyway, I’ve heard of this game before, and I’d like to play it. Does anybody know if it was made in RPGMaker, or if it was built from scratch?

There can only be one best fruit :wink:

They started in RPGMaker, then switched to GameMaker. Hence why there’s a lot of RPGMaker assets in there.

Also: CHAOS DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

My brain parsed that as “CHAOS DUCK” at first.

played and finished. its fucking incredible. the battle system actually manages to be really good…vince carter is fun as heck.

also the final showdown with jordan, when you enter the last remaining court, and lights come up and Come On And Slam starts playing…holy crap. its actually a really good scene
