DR is right about the sub. The Japanese VAs are absolutely perfect. Watch the subs.

The show is just so japanese, it sounds awkward to have an american cast spout out japanese terms and phrases, and the translation is kinda strange. Why do they only call Chiyo “Chiyo Chan?” but then not 'Yukari Sensei" or “Sakaki San” and so on? In the episdoe where Tomo (who’s voice actress is TERRIBLE, might I add) is talking about eating lunch during class, in Japanese it’s said “Idatakimasu” which literally translates to “Thanks for the Food” but is ment a way of saying “Time to eat” Tomo in the dub says “Thanks for the Food” and that just sounds off. Like, who is she thanking? She should’ve said time to eat. The point is, is that an English cast spout off Japanese phrases or terms just sounds awkward.
That said, I think Osaka’s VA does a great job with her. A lot of the stuff she says in the subbed version sound almost if not just as good in the dub.
Oh, and I love high school girls.

Neither of them make sense from an American point of view. Why would someone eating lunch suddenly say “Time to eat”? There are plenty of Japanese polite sayings that simply do not translate at all. However, the person is obviously saying something, so the translation has to put something there. Nothing it puts is going to make a whole lot of sense.
“Time to eat” sounds more appropriate in that situation than “Thanks for the Food,” Wouldnt you think?
I’d assume she was thanking God, as some people pray before their meals.
