Helios: You’re a breath of fresh air
We need more newbies like you.
Charle: When I call you troll, it’s in the nicest way possible, though you did earn some creeper points in that thread about missing my sister.
Right, back to the discussion about writer morals, last round and then I’ll really leave it.
“Nobody asked for that” you say, Wil, but what you really are saying is “if you don’t have anything nice to say…”, which can be translated to the fanbrat howl of “don’t like, don’t reeead!”. Which you’ve also said in other words.
I’ll lay down why I feel like I do about concrit and fanauthors like this:
When I was taking care of the RPGC fanfic archive there were loads of good stories submitted. But there was also an awful lot of crap, and I spent countless hours delicately constructing silk gloved responses to these authors and in the nicest way possible explain that no, your script fic based on toilet humor isn’t quite what we’re looking for, and sorry but your Mary Sue/Sephiroth porn is too graphic to be published. Then there were those who plagarized (one mindnumbingly stupid one plagarized the dialogue out of one of MY stories and sent it to me) and those got a bit harsher responses but it was still overly polite and apologetic from my end. Not forgetting those crapfic authors who harassed me until I agreed to post their half-assed stuff because I was too nice to hit Ignore like I should have.
It got really, really frustrating. And what finally made me go “screw this!” and toss my moldy silk gloves in the trash was this. In short, a guy comes in and posts a really bland, boring and stupid script fic. People kindly (well, apart from Sorc) tell him that they didn’t find it good, and why. And he throws the most drama queeny brat tantrum I’ve seen for something like that. Then I come in and try to chill things, writing another one of my silken-gloved reviews but all the while I was wondering why I was trying to pacify this little brat who aggressively turned on my friends FOR NOTHING. Sorc’s reaction to the whole thing was freakin’ cathartic to me because he said things I had been thinking for years in response to this RPGDude. Val, Chris-Chris and the others did NOT deserve that kind of idiotic response, and that was the final drop for me.
Also, on 984 and you:

Sorry 984, but I didn’t read the above post. I’ve though a lot about it and decided that ignoring you is the best thing to do.

[quote=“Wilfredo Martinez, “Should RPGC have its own TV Tropes page?””]
Anyway, that’s three “Nos” (Zepp didn’t actually address the topic so he loses his vote and I don’t read 984’s posts so I can’t count his) but that’s a small fraction of our regular audience.

(Offhand, the search function on the new forum version is awful.)
I’m not bringing it up because I think you’re breaking 984’s heart with this. I brought it up as an example of why I didn’t read your post about writing: Not only do I already know your points and wasn’t interested in rereading them, I also find you pretty childish. That Marvel thread is a prime example of why I think so: You post a piece that has a bend that by its very topic invites to discussion, and then you get annoyed when, GASP, people on a discussion board wants to DISCUSS it with you. Val sums my thoughts up pretty well on the second page, as well as Eden with his second line above Val’s post.
And I realize it’s hypocritical of me to critize you for not wanting a discussion on something when I’m not (re)reading your arguments, but that’s one rock I have to throw in this glass house. I don’t aim to win this discussion because I know it’s pointless to try to convert anybody in viewpoints like these. At this point I’m just venting annoyance that has built for ages, and I can admit that.
Okay I’m done, I feel much more at ease.
