At the moment, the Reuters article says that there’s no further information, however over here the papers are reporting that the bomber in question - who only managed to blow up himself and injure two people, thankfully - sent a video in mails to various news sources, SÄPO (Swedish CIA) etc, threatening the whole country and urging all muslims in Europe to stand up for themselves by grabbing a weapon. The catalyst he said is that we have troops in Afghanistan and are supporting Lars Vilks (see “Muhammad drawings controversy”).
And this, of course, will only serve to raise tensions, not to mention the polls for the racist party after people have gotten over the shock. I’m stuck between shock and wondering at the absurdity at bothering to attack a country that really isn’t doing anything at all.
There should be a law that said if you blow yourself up like that, your family gets bathed in pig fat (they are afraid of that) and is exhiled from the continent. Suicide bombings as we know would halt instantly.
The prime minister held a speech saying that personal freedom is what our country is all about, when asked how a guy could walk around with explosives under his shirt. A good response since saying anything else would mean checking up on anybody anywhere at anytime But, at least for now it doesn’t seem like it’ll do any harm to personal liberties. The SÄPO also has stated that while it’s classified as a terrorist threat, the threat level is not being raised any further.
Also, speaking of international things, how are you doing in Britain and the student situation?
There are happy mediums between a freedom to search and freedom from searches. In the United States, police can only fully search a suspect when there’s probable cause to believe he committed a crime, but they can pat-down a suspect based on any reasonable suspicion. In vulnerable areas like subways and airports, police have a near-total freedom to search, whereas police have virtually no right to enter a home without a warrant. These distinctions make life more complicated, but the system had to respond to 9/11 and it’s worked reasonably well since then.
I lived in several European countries and that gave me a good knowledge that makes me able to compare racism and discrimination in these countries. Unfortunately I don´t know much about racism in Denmark but I can speak about Sweden.
Sweden is the most racist and cynical European country. A humane country on the books given the numbers of refugees Sweden has taken in but one has to consider the interests behind any Swedish action for what Sweden gives with one hand it takes away with the other. They do not let refugees in because they are generous and nice guys.
Swedes are unable to accept others “as equal”. Swedes are xenophobes who are completely convinced that their country is the best in the world.
Sweden is a country of racism and intolerance.
Swedes boast about giving free courses in Swedish to all immigrants when in reality they make people attend no ending courses (terrible didatics and pedagogy) to let them out of the job market. It´s a trap.
Swedes boast about their excellent health care system but they do not say that when their health care system fails it is usually with immigrants.
Some will say that Sweden has been pretty homogenous and that immigrants and other minorities are a recent phenomenon but it is not true. What about the assimilationist policies that Sami people and Finns have been suffering for more than one century?
The Swedish judicial system is openly racistic with 95% ethnic Swedes as judges and lawyers. Swedish policemen are 99% ethnic Swedes and they discriminate and persecute immigrants.
Coming back to Sweden from UK I was stricken by a photo of an immigrant with an arabic name saying “Welcome to my city Stockholm”. How ridiculous! They need photos! In UK when you arrive at the airport you can see many immigrants or people with immigrant descent working in the airport, all kinds of people with strong foreign accents, women with muslim scarfs, sikhs with turbans working as immigration officers.
In Sweden they use “photos” of immigrants because they have no immigrants working in the airport. Oh…sorry, I forgot. Of course they have immigrants at the airport, immigrant engineers and doctors that are unable to find a job in racist Sweden can at least drive taxis.
Sweden boasts about giving financial aid to refugees but what Swedes do is to give refugees a miserable income to live in segregated areas where there is nothing to do. These poor people are constantly humiliated by social service workers and suffer from depression.
Swedes have an exceptional intrinsic skill of ostracizing and alienating their immigrants, making them pariahs.
Swedes make them feel unworthy and guilty even though all they want is a job.
Swedish media has made it a rule to associate immigrants with problems.
Swedes would say “The segregation in Sweden is not unique.” No, it is not but it is the most cynical! Swedes smile at you and stab you in the back.
And it is an illusion to think that Western Europeans are not discriminated in Sweden. The only criterium to be discriminated in Sweden is to be a “non Swede”! If you are not one of them “you are nothing”.
Even if you speak good Swedish (bra svenska) you have no chance in the racist job market. Swedes think they are superior and it doesn´t matter if you have education, skills or experience if these were gained outside Sweden. Even if you are a second, third generation of immigrant descent, Swedes will never consider you Swedish.
Other Swedes will say: “You are most welcome to come and study in Sweden. We are one of the few nations that has no fee for foreign students who comes here to study.”
But Sweden needs qualified personal so it is just a question of interests. The irony is that these foreing students after graduating go on unemployed because of Swedish employers´ racism and discrimination.
In line with this it is not so strange that onward migration to a third country has grown popular not just among foreign students and workers residents in Sweden but also among those with immigrant descent that were born and raised in Sweden.
Sweden is the most racist country in Europe. The Swedish race purity department was only shut down in 1976. Sweden had important connections with nazists that placed their money in Swedish banks.
Sweden is the country of double moral, saying one thing, doing another thing.
Besides, as Swedes themselves say " Sweden is boring, cold and dark", that is why they drink so much and behave like pigs. A very very depressing place.

The National Socialist Front (Swedish: Nationalsocialistisk front, NSF) was at the time of its dissolving the largest Neo-Nazi political party in Sweden.[1] The organization was founded in Karlskrona on 8 August 1994. It became a political party on 20 April 1999, the 110th birthday of Adolf Hitler. The party’s official newspaper is named Den Svenske Nationalsocialisten (“The Swedish National Socialist”), also known as Den Svenske (“The Swedish”).
The party ran for the municipal council elections in Karlskrona in 2002, but only attracted 0.5% of the votes which was not sufficient for a mandate. In 2006, the party entered the elections at a national level. There they gained 1,417 votes, or 0.03% (in order to enter the Swedish parliament a party needs at least 4% of the total votes). The party had the most success in Trollhättan, where they received 208 votes or 0.65%, although it wasn’t enough to enter the kommunfullmäktige (municipal assembly). Still, 2006 was their best election year in the party’s history.
In 2007, the NSF demonstrated in Stockholm for the release of Holocaust denier Ernst Zündel.[2]
The party had as its main goals the abolition of democracy, the repatriation of immigrants, the implementation of scientific racism and cutting taxes for families with many genetically healthy children.[3] The NSF also launched a campaign to defend Mel Gibson over the criticism he received from Abraham Foxman for making the film The Passion of the Christ.[4]
The National Socialist Front had a mandatory political uniform dress code during marches and demonstrations, which included a black combat-sweater or shirt, black military-cap, boots, khaki-coloured combat pants and the party’s logo on the arms. This uniform was disbanded of use after the police stated in 2006 that it was a hate crime to wear them during demonstrations. The members of the party often wore a blue t-shirt with yellow text that said “NSF” after this.
The National Socialist Front was officially dissolved on the 22 November 2008. A new party was founded at the same time, the People’s Front (Sweden) (“Folkfronten”) with the same people in charge.[5]

Seven out of ten reports of ethnic discrimination came from people with a Muslim background, and almost 40% of those questioned in the survey said they had witnessed verbal abuse directed at Muslims.
The report, Racism and Xenophobia in Sweden, also showed an increasing intolerance of immigration.
“If you look at the whole period from 1999 to 2004 there has been a significant increase in the number of people who want to close Sweden’s borders to immigration, from 35% to 45.5%,” said the report’s author, José Alberto Diaz.
But the picture painted by the report is complex. While one in five respondents said that they were “negatively inclined towards people who they did not consider belonged in Sweden”, the support for anti-immigration political parties, such as the Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna) and the National Democrats (Nationaldemokraterna) is declining.
One in four said they could consider voting for such a party, down from almost one in three in 1999.
Two thirds of those questioned rejected the notion that Sweden is a racist country, and fewer people then five years ago believe that racism is increasing. In 1999, 56% said they believed racism was rising, but by 2004 this had decreased to 46%.
Okay, so reactions are heaping up. The racist party has stated, though they took it back later when the beautiful backlash hit, “Finally!”
Muslim leaders in Sweden are expressing disgust. A muslim journalist wrote a long, very passionate letter answering the message the bomber sent out, in essence saying “me and the rest of us who fled your fanatical utopia are not interested in aiding you in your disgusting cause” - going so far as to say:

Well, there’s this “Svenskatalande bättrefolk” sort of attitude towards Swedes over which is generally a lukewarm friendly nemesis sort of poke at their attitudes, but. uh. yeah.
Finns might complain about immigrants but if any effort should be put into it, the highest the complain might lead to is an overblown conversation on an internet forum that somehow manages to get a Hitler reference in it.
Even ‘neutral’ countries seem to get their share of fundamentalists with visions of grandeur. NOT. HERE. The ones who tolerate the cold over here want none of that crap over here. Of course, there’s the matter of cultural integration, but what can a country do about matters of equality, diet, education, when our views are so very alien to them? (“WHAT? A FEMALE POLICE OFFICER? A WOMAN TEACHES MY CHILDREN AT SCHOOL? YOU DARE SERVE PORK!?”)
