A.f.i.

Ozzy Osbourne was never in bad religion. Are you thinking of Bad Company or something? :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t know if Ozzy was in Bad Company either but yeah, I know for a fact that he was never in Bad religion.

I’m thinking of Black Sabbath, nevermind.

AFI rocks.

I Say: POSERS…POSERS!!!

I think it’s all Fashion Punk bullshit, Being a “Sk8er boy” is kinda Glam these days… it sucks!

Stop sucking! Dammit! Get back to your Eminem Cds and shut the hell up! You guys ARE NOT Cool!

What the fuck is up with rebeling being a fashion… eww!

…What are you talking about, you crazy asshole? :stuck_out_tongue: Maybe you should put what you’re saying to scrutiny before you throw it down, cos then you just get people laughing at you :stuck_out_tongue: Sorry to be harsh, but it’s those kinda comments that humour me the most in subjects like this :stuck_out_tongue:

So by default we all love Eminem? Everyone who is “punk” is fake? Think before you speak dude.

I’m not saying punk is fashion, I’m saying I’d rather have mainstream fans listening to eminem than listening to Good Charlotte and pretending to be Punks…

You contradict yourself. I’m not going to waste my time with a rambling response. Maybe tomorrow.

I don’t really see where I’m contradicting myself…

Look… Emo and Commercial Punk is on a big hype, that’s all

and every kid in my neighbourhood is turning punkish and they tend to be kinda rebel, when last year, they were listening to eminem… that’s a fact… so where am I wrong?

What he’s doing is saying that most of punk is just kids trying to be cool, which I don’t agree with. Good Charlotte isn’t punk - it’s mainstream over hyped crap.

Listening to punk is ok, go for it, if that’s your thing. However, I think those people that run around screaming “im a punk woo” are retarded.

I totally agree that mainstream punk is shit, I despise Good Charlotte. Its just calling everyone who dresses punk a poser that i don’t agree with, and saying that everyone on earth used to like eminem.

Well, this is true… there are merely no REAL punkers left anymore… juste because commercialish punk crap is now mainstream…

all those kids are plain Posers, prentending to be someone they are not…

Anyways, I don’t like punk… but I know what’s the difference between good and bad punk, and what we see on MTV and hear on the radio is Crap punk

The problem is that I never said that EVERYONE punk we’re posers, since I was not talking about Rancid, Big Wig and Racefist fans… and I never said EVERYONE used to listen to Eminem neither… all I said is that those who listen to commercial punk were almost all eminem fans last year cause all they care about is what’s “in”

It really pisses me off when people get into arguements about how people are posers and all that shit. As far as I care, if you listen to something for any other reason then because you like how they sound and you enjoy listening to it, then I think you’re a jackass. Fuck posers, fuck people who are punk/emo/whatthehellever becasue of some lame ass reason becides the music itself, fuck all these sterotypical groups that appear out of a genre of music becasue they can’t or won’t be themselves. I don’t give a shit about any of that. To me, you’re either a person who enjoys music for what it is, or you’re a jackass.

It’s quite late over here, this isn’t directed to anyone here, I just needed to vent that…

oh man I don’t even know where to start with this thread… on one hand Dead Kennedys, Black Sabbath, Misfits, Black Flag, and other good bands being mentioned. But on the other hand, there’s Nofx, Good Charlette, Eminem… ugh why are these guys mentioned in a punk thread?
Well, I’ll just say is from what I’ve heard, there’s a lot of good punk, but then there’s a lot of crap… But the funny thing about punk, is if it’s crap, it’s not punk.

There’s also the funny thing about punk that if the band “sells-out” by getting a deal with a major record company, they’re no longer punk. (See my previous post.)

I think what’s really funny is that people like to label themselves at all…genres of music, styles ofclothing, types of PEOPLE…what EVER.

(Missed this before)

The funny thing is, the bands did not label themselves as such. In fact, other people did. They were like “This sounds different” and they wanted to give a name to it so they could distinguish it. The reason that there is labels is for convenience, not for another fad (although in Americal those two things seem to blend together). If you are saying that labelling genres is a bad thing, then I might as well buy Igor Stranvinsky instead of Iron Maiden. Bad Religion Instead of Beethoven. The Spice Girls instead of Siouxsie and the Banshees.

You’re silly. 8P

Also- maybe… just maybe- some people actually identify with these subcultures. I think that a large amount of “true punks” would offset the fact that there are a million “poseurs” out there. And heck, Gothic and Gothic Poseur (Spooky Kid) are two completely different subcultures altogether. And honestly, I don’t care if someone calls themself part of the Flying Burnweevil subculture- as long as they FEEL that they belong.

In fact, I declare myself a Flying Burnweevil today. I shall dress in whatever clothing I want and listen to damned near everything. 8D

Oh and KenTaR: You’re really silly- especially if you think that (old) Dead Kennedys or Black Flag or… I’ll stop now… would be considered “mainstream.” I KNOW that DK didn’t make a lot of money until they kicked out their lead singer (who was great) and they sold themselves out (and so as far as I’m concerned they aren’t DK anymore)- and I doubt that Black Flag or that any of the early hardcore music made any money either. So claiming that they “sold out” is ludicrious- especially when compared to Rancid- who ARE good, but they are commercial as Hell. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also- this is what I call selling out for any genre:

“Changing one’s musical style and/or public world views to sell more records RATHER THEN a change to experiment or some of the millions of other reasons (or for the public world views- if they genuinely had a complete change).”

If that needs clarification I’ll attempt to provide it.

I never talked about DK or Black Flag… sorry

Jesus h fucking tapdancing christ people.
It never fails, you talk about something you like and people end up bitching about it and trying to define stuff. If you’re not gonna discuss AFI, then get the fuck out of the thread.

Hey guys…As much as I’d like to discuss this and such, as a moderator I have to be fair and answer to Steve’s request here. Please stay on topic.

I’d just like to say one thing before I end this part of the conversation, if I may (:P) :

A lot of people don’t really understand that being a ‘punk’ is so simple, cos all being a punk is, is being an individual; that is, doing what you feel like, and not living your life dictated by the thoughts and feelings of other people. With that in mind, a lot of people are punk; hell, Avril Lavigne is punk! And I know many of you don’t agree, hell, I know Avril doesn’t, but I would call her punk because her philosophy is something like “do what you like.” I dunno, Flintedge knows it better, lol :stuck_out_tongue:

So, it’s not your clothes, or what you listen to, that makes you a punk. Shit, you could be a punk without ever knowing what ‘punk’ is. Thats why I don’t really like that term anymore, heh. Is ‘punk’ by his own definition but never calls himself that :stuck_out_tongue:
