So I guess the 'tube will still have plenty of home-edited music or “funny” videos of whatever is cool right now for a long time.
:hahaha;
Seriously now, I’m glad about this. I do believe in copyrights, mind, but people shouldn’t be prevented from sharing their stuff -even if based on someone else’s- with others as long as they do it for free. Can you imagine if they made that illegal? Fanstuff (of ALL types) would disappear, and a lot of consumer goodwill along with it. That would in turn result in lost sales for the copyright holders. It’s time they faced that fact.
Posting copyrighted videos is still copyright infringement, and posters can still be sued. The issue was whether Youtube should be liable for hosting them. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act made pretty clear it wasn’t, and I’m glad the judge recognized it.
I agree, though, that fan-made non-commercial works shouldn’t violate copyright law.
I’d take that bet but your first paycheck will probably be more than my yearly salary. And I already lost 100 dollars betting on North Korea for the world cup (granted he gave me 10,000:1 odds - and he is also an investment banking lawyer so he could totally afford to pay up if he lost)
