Will SNES Rom sites die?

I’m afraid that sites with roms will get shut down. I like SNES rpgs, and a lot of them never came to America. Most of the GBA sites got shut down. Do I gotta hurry up and download roms and patches before the sites get shut down?

If posts like this aren’t allowed, where board should I post this at?

Sites will remain in foreign countries (especially Europe) where copyright laws are more lenient. In any case, the best way of getting ROMs is now and always will be via IRC.

Yeah. Pretty much every IRC server now has at least one channel devoted to FServs, typically of the rom or porn variety. These ROM f-servs, while typically concerned more with GBA and other new games, sometimes have the SNES rom needed. And if they don’t have it listed, there’s a good chance one of the people actually does have it. So, being nice and shit will get you the rom if they’re not complete assholes.

Well, me and Epic are assholes, so I guess you’re all out of luck.

I’m also a warez dealer, just in case somebody needs help.

Aren’t SNES roms protected under the obsolete medium rule?

Not in North America, they’re not. Completely illegal unless you dumped the ROM yourself from a game you own.

say it with me; legal roms are a myth

It would be cool if there was an RPG roms channel

Can you download patches for the roms on IRC?

hahahahah oh lordy

I hate to do this but…

Go to the RPGC main page-> Chat link-> follow instructions-> then ask nicely and follow instructions once you get on IRC. Probably by going to channel #rpgc

You don’t need to look that far: ROMs are illegal, Emulators and Patches aren’t. All you’ll ever need is in The Whirlpool.

And as long as we’re on the subject: The 24-Hour span in which you can use the ROM for evaluation purposes is also a myth. Having the ROM on your Hard Drive for a nanosecond is illegal.

sup#rpgc?

SNES rom sites probably won’t die, because most of it is vaporware. And yea, i know, vaporware is still illegal, but the ISDA (or whoever it is now) won’t be as hard on those sites as places that host isos/gba roms.

Also, SNES roms small file size means that starting a rom site isn’t that hard. If one of the big ones goes down (like thenation.net or something, god they host EVERYONE’s roms), a bunch of small sites can just pop up.

Isn’t it still illegal to dump them yourself too? I thought i read somewhere. =\ Or is it only illegal to buy the tools required to dump them?

It’s legal to dump them yourself because you’re making a backup of your own property. It is illegal to send that dump to someone else, though.

How do I register a nick?

What’s a good channel for roms and anime mp3’s?

What’s a good script?

“Go to the RPGC main page-> Chat link-> follow instructions-> then ask nicely and follow instructions once you get on IRC. Probably by going to channel #rpgc

There’s fserves there?

“SNES rom sites probably won’t die, because most of it is vaporware.”

Urbandictionary says vaporware is hyped software that never comes out. I don’t see how vaporware is illegal

I think the word is Abandonware (Stuff so old that nobody cares anymore).

Yea, it is. Wow i’m retarded :stuck_out_tongue:

In order…

You don’t need to if you’re just going to leech. #rpgc. They’re not allowed anyway. Yes.

There are legal public domain ROMs. Like… homebrewn games and stuff.

But commercial ROMs are illegal unless you dump them yourself and don’t distribute them.

yeah, sorry, i should have made that distinction

Capitalism run amok.
