Why the fuck isn't there an MGS4 Thread?

I dropped 500 for the bundle. I probably won’t get another game for a while (though I’m eyeing Assassin’s Creed), but fuck, it was worth every penny. As far as graphics and sound/music, this is easily the greatest game I’ve ever played. Storywise, it’s too soon to tell, but as it stands, it probably won’t get any better than this. Gameplay is still relatively similar, though they’ve changed it up quite a bit. This is the first game of it’s kind (MGS or otherwise) I’ve played in a few years, so I’m still getting used to the controls.

God I love this game.

To answer your question: Too busy oogling at both the graphics and cut-scenes. Which are quite the time-guzzlers. And yes, the tunes are absolutely fantastic. And the absurd amount of product placement…!!

More guns could use a toggle-iron sight mode, otherwise, you have to hold THREE buttons to even aim a gun, four to fire. (L1, Triangle, Right stick, R1) The auto-aim is indispensable when you have more than two enemies at once, though. And it’s easily removable with square, too.

The camo system’s a bit of a ho-hum compared to MGS3 since enemies tend to notice you very easily even at 99% index - 50-60 was enough to fool the enemies back in Snake Eater. The “Allying” system is fun too, since you sorta have guys watching your back and you don’t have to sneak around all the damn time.

No funny codec talk about a cardboard box yet, and I’m in act 3 :< At least the sucker lowers stress fast, and doesn’t kill your health like cigarettes. I’ll give MGO a try once I’m done with the game.

Well, I guess anything not in-your-face Japanese just isn’t cool here…

Halfway done - This game only gets better.

Waiting for my free copy to get here so I can rent a PS3. I’ll post a review afterwards.

free copy? o.O

I haven’t played it, but I watched a demo at a friend’s place and all I really remember is laughing until I cried at Snakes’ skintight uniform digging into his behind like that. And the rather questionable things he did such as that “pretending to be a statue” thing. Oh those crazy Japanese people.

I’ve got a friend who got the 80GB ps3, but he doesn’t like MGS. So he sent it to me

He was just standing still so he would blend into the background and thus remain unnoticed. :< Although Tanooki Mario did that much better.

Also, the psyche drops for “old” jokes sure hit the spot. Special laughs for being able to recreate the original “Whose footprints are these?!” scene in Act 4

Just finished it. Probably the best game I’ve ever played, but damn the ending scene had to be at least an hour long.:stuck_out_tongue:

What? No memory card? No vibration either? No more massages for you!

The game was so random at times.

As someone who considers MGS3 as a superb game and one of the best on the PS2, Act 3was really stupendous. It was the more subtle homages like what Big Mama says before Snake fights Raging Raven which mirrored what was said to Big Boss before he fought the last battle that really got me worked up.

I also liked what they did with Liquid Ocelot. The part of the storyline always seemed to stick out like a sore thumb. It was sorted out with some decency and actually surprised me as well.

Yeah, I don’t wanna type a review up. This is definitely the best game I’ve ever played.

I loved the fight at the end with Liquid Ocelot. It was just… pure awesome.

Truly epic, as it needed to be to end such a truly epic series. The cut-scenes were long, but never felt intrusive- here were characters you could actually care about. And that mid-credit sequence… DAMN.

That bit at the start of act 5 was an absolute bastard though. That aside, definitely one of the best games I’ve played in a decade.

I just finished it. A technical and narrative masterpiece if there ever was one. I’m still speechless.

A hint towards using Snake in other fighting game franchises in the future?

A review by me.

Oh… my…God…

Best game I’ve ever played. Fanboyism aside, it is a technical and narrative masterpiece. There was always an epic scope about the series that was never fully realized due to the hardware’s limitations. Here, it is fully realized.

From a visual standpoint, it’s like nothing ever seen. The only thing that reminded me that it wasn’t absolutely realistic was the fact I only own an SD TV with regular A/V cables. In game cutscenes blended (in some cases literally) with the action so well, the only thing that let me know I was in control was my guages.

From an audio standpoint, this is among the top 3 game soundtracks I’ve ever heard. The voice acting is top notch, and thankfully, all of the game’s heaviest moments are masterfully handled, ESPECIALLY by David Hayter. (HE must play Snake in the MGS movie. Him and no one else).

From a narrative standpoint…
First of all, if you do not care about the story (Why the fuck are you playing it if you don’t?) Dont bother. The cutscenes are long and they are frequrent. All surviving characters return and all their stories come to an end, some bitter, some sweet. To those familiar with the series, to those who’ve followed it from the original Metal Gear, Fan Service abounds. Especially on a certain snowy Island… It is a complex story with all sorts of loose ends, and here they are neatly tied up, completely and satisfactorily.

From a gameplay standpoint…
Ok, if you don’t care about the story, play it anyway, because there is still a fantastic game to be played. Unfortunately, you will have to sit through hours of pesky narration (though you can skip over it). The sneaking bit isn’t emphasized as much here, as the option to run and gun is supported by drastically improved camera, a vast amount of customizable weapons and a new over-the-shoulder aiming system. There are many moments here which will remain on my greatest-moments-in-gaming list for years.

Any complaints are minor at best. For instance, this is Snake’s last mission. The world torn asunder by technology and and War and a greater power. It’s a very dreary atmosphere, as alluded to by Snake’s opening monologue. There are attempts to lighten it up with Humor, and for the most part, with the exception of the characters’ amazement with the current PS3 technology, they fail. Thankfully, it’s relatively seldom.

Best game I’ve ever played. I’ll be thinking about the closing hours for days.

Anybody think it’ll port to 360 one day? :\

They’d have to get rid of all the product placement, change/take out some dialogue, and do quite a bit of compressing. That aside, I think Kojima said that only the cell processor could handle the octocamo (do correct me if I’m wrong on this).

Yeah, it’s maxed out a dual-layer blu-ray. It would have to be stripped down quite a bit.

Or spread out across multiple HD-DVDs.

No, an homage to the end of MGS1.
