I was considering playing FFIX again, and remembered, in particular, how much fun I always had with Chocobo Hot and Cold. I kinda realized then that in all the games I played, none were quite as fun as that. Now I’m kind of curious. What mini-games are everyone else good at, or love a lot? Or hell, even your least favorite. I just wanna know.
Mine was definitely the jump-rope game in FFIX
I don’t know what my favorite is, but a good one would be Triple Triad from FF VIII (at least if you didn’t get rule screwed or reached the fourth disk).
Craymel Ball. SG knows what I’m talking about.
Probably snowboarding from FFVII. Wasted god knows how many hours on that one. Also I’m probably the only person in the world who preferred Tetra Master to Triple Triad.
Outside the FF series, it’d probably have to be any of the classic Sega arcade games from Shenmue.
Blitzball all the way.
I’ve always liked the various gambling mini-games in various games. Mostly because of the cool stuff you can get if you play a lot. Dragon Quest and Harvest Moon in particular. Triple Triad is another of my favorites.
Oh yeah, the various mini-games in Anachronox. What a nice way to pick locks, yell at people, etc. I think more RPGs should incorporate little, (relatively) easy mini-games. Variety is always nice.
Racing Johnny from Chrono Trigger. I still can’t get above 1900 or so.
Hell fucking yes.
Probably FF7 snowboarding and motorcycle-fighting.
But CT’s bike race gets a special mention. One of the developers in the special ending says, “Bet you can’t beat 2300 in the bike race” or 2310 or something like that. So I did it after an hour plus of trying, wondering what awesome reward awaited me, only to receive the same 5 full ethers as always.
I once financed my pirate ship (corsair actually) by playing blackjack at a tavern. Then the money from that built a glorious empire where the sun never sets. And I became an earl. By gambling.
Chocobo Hot and Cold for me, definitely. It was the perfect mix of fun, exploration, button-mashing, and even leveling up, and the rewards were actually useful.
I’d have to say just about any Zelda mini game, they were either really fun or so impossibly hard it took multiple days to beat it, along with a new controller or two.
Dude, I am a junkie for that arrow shooting game in zelda link to the past.
Thanks for saving me the trouble I think one of Nintendo Power’s challenges was that too.
I don’t generally enjoy minigames unless they fit with the world. That being said, I love the whole amusement park in FFVII. I wish I remembered the name, but I haven’t played it for so long.
Craymel ball is awesome
But not as awesome as grinding levels was
I’m being completely serious
GAP: You mean the Gold Saucer? That was my favorite part too.
In fact, in the whole FF series, VII still stands as the one I had the most minigame fun with- which was an odd contrast to the darkness of its story.
Worst overall FF games: FFX-2. I disliked almost all of its games, and was nearly unable to beat two of them, which would’ve prevented me from completing the game.
:ark:
I liked ffx-2 better then ffx.
Chocobo Hot and Cold for me too.
I loathed Craymel Ball with passion. Probably because I sucked at it.
