What was your most difficult FF?

No this isn’t really a poll. I really want to know and want to hear some comments. I finished FF10 almost a month ago and I was surprised at how easy it is. The last “dungeon” is a joke, not to mention the second last boss. I didn’t think Jecht was fit to be deemed as the last boss because it was all about Sin and Yu Yevon- Tidus’ relationship with Jecht was personal, and I hated to see it end like that on a personal note. You didn’t see Bartz and X-Death getting chummy…

The game itself is too easy. Monster-wise, well it’s a bit challenging, but not to the point where you’re overwhelmed. There are no real dungeons besides the cloisters. You just advance advance advance. I miss the days of real dungeons and whatnot, like Mt Koltz and the Temple of the Ancients. It seems the older games have more hardcore dungeons and places to navigate, and the newer ones don’t really present a blockade or a challenge…I mean, I loved FF10, but after I finished it, I realized I missed the challenge. FFX-2 was the same way. Both seemed to set the moster difficulty up; I’d rather face a long series of dungeons to explore instead of battling souped up monsters.

So what do you think? Is it just me? I’m REALLY hoping FF12 goes back to its roots again. I miss real weapons and armor and going through minor puzzles and fun, varied places to fight your way through.

I thought FF5 was hard mainly because of the final boss.

None of the FF games struck me as “hard”. The only one I played with memorable puzzles was VI, however, I didn’t encounter any mind-raping contraptions like in, say, Lufia 2. The one with the hardest battles was Tactics (Well, the first two chapters at least) and the one with the hardest boss was VIII (Omega Weapon, of course)

I didn’t play FFIV although most people say that’s the hardest.

Only ever finished 7, 8 and 10… I’d have to vote 7, even though I can often waste Safer Sephiroth on level 50 it still provides a good, solid challenge

FF3j.

Final Fantasy 1. That game requires a LOT of leveling, and you have to do a lot of wandering around. If you don’t prepare for a dungeon… forget about getting out alive.

for dungeons, probably ff7. For bosses, meh, ff3j i suppose. overall, ff1.

FFVIII - I relied too heavily on GFs until Adel kicked my ass. I had to completely restart.

and Evangelion, you couldn’t be more right on FFX’s end battles/dungeons being a joke…I mean…come on! I expect to only have some kind of challenge when I go to finish a game.

I agree with PJ about FF1 being the toughest.

FF IV hard type. Fucking insane. Zeromus=hardest. boss. ever.

FF I. Those Gas Dragons in the Temple of Fiends were such cheap little sons of…

FF2j cuz of the ridiculous stat-building system…WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT O_o

Well, there’s “good hard” and “bad hard”. FF1 was “bad hard”, in that all you needed to get places was high levels - and high levels would get you everywhere. FFT was “good hard”, in that battles were challenging and made you think through things.

I think I’m going to vote FF3 as the most challenging. The graphics and gameplay are dated, though - I think I’d really enjoy the upcoming DS version. :sunglasses:
Easiest game so far - FF7 by far. I think I’ve only seen the Game Over screen two or three times in five playthroughs. 8p

By the way, starting with FF7 there are plenty of optional bosses which can pwn you (e.g. Omega Weapon in 8, Ozma in 9, the Arena Battles in 10). But I agree that since 5, the overall difficulty hasn’t been amazingly hard. 7 was still the only one I blazed through, though. I had at least some points of difficulty in all the rest (FF9 most, I think).

XI is far and away the most difficult! Console only I’d say FF1. It was my first RPG, and my first trek through the game was not easy.

FF4 ‘hardtype’. Only one in the series where the final boss STILL manages to destroy my party at least once, no matter how many times I’ve beaten the game. It also has some of the toughest optional bosses. FF1 and FF3j come close

FF7-10 are definitely among the most simplistic, and I’d have to agree that 7’s the easiest, followed by 8. I honestly don’t remember ever seeing the Game Over screen in either of those.

I’d say FFTactics was the hardest, where in other Final Fantasy games, you could level up as much as needed thus making it easier as you progressed, in tactics, the random encounters kept up with your level, thus always providing a challenge.

I can remember getting Ramza near max level and the random encounters were more threatening than the final boss… Good times…

Oh yeah. FFT had Velius. I always get spanked by that stupid little anal monkey at least seveal times, every fucking time I play it.

Hardest? I’d say FF4. Even with powerlevelling, I died repeatedly during most parts of the game (especially in the Summon World).

Easiest?

To me, FF7 was a piece of cake. There were no really hard battles at all, with the sole exception of Ruby Weapon. Damn tentacle beast.

Try FF6-FF10, although FF9 has a fair challenge for FFs. I don’t like going by just the final boss though. If I did, then FF10 would be up on the difficulty scale. However, most of the game is fairly easy, just like FF4 and FF5.

FF2 easy fights I think I will go left what none of my atacks can hurt this normal monster it’s way hard.
