Has anyone present ever read Wildstorm’s “StormWatch” or it’s “sequal” of sorts, “The Authority”?
For those of you who havn’t, I’ll tell you this: BEST. SUPERHERO TEAM. EVAR.
Both of them are chronicalled in a series of trade paperbacks. (Books that contain several issues of a comic series.) I’m currently trying to find out if there’s a series that shows the events that take place between StormWatch and The Authority.
I love Comics too. As long as they’re not men in shiney form fitting suits with corny lines shoved into a story with no plot and even less style. Oh shit! I just described 98% of Comics! runs away ;_;
I’ve seen both the Authority and Stormwatch… and I don’t really like either.
Then again, you have to understand that I’m an OLD-SCHOOL comics fan, been reading them since my childhood (In the 70’s.) And Comics have DEFINITELY changed since then!
I really don’t care much for heroes who kill. Also, international politics (which both titles deal with) are a b*tch, both in real life AND in comics.
Still, I will admit that both titles are popular and have great art. Authority also features the major GAY romance in comics, between Apollo and the Midnighter (Superman and Batman take-offs, respectively). Interesting to watch how our social standards are slowly changing. (You think they’ll marry in San Francisco?) : )
Well, one could pick up some of Don Rosa’s non-Scrooge McDuck comics, like Captain Kentducky
Also, I’ve recently found a few long lost lavs in European comics; namely, Tintin and Asterix. I’ve also discovered a non-manga/anime catgirl; Omaha the Cat-Dancer (Not recommended to minors, though >_>)
Lobo kicks ass. And so does Thor. Thor needs more comic series.
Speaking of Thor, does anyone here read The Ultimates? The second series is coming out soon and everything I’ve heard on it so far sounds like it’ll be pretty good.
Cyber: Actually there are still many good comics today. Not as many as there used to be, tho. And yes, Batman and Sandman were among the best written (thought I personally never cared much for Dream and Company.)
Mabbat: blinks OHMYGOD! Mab’s turned into the Phantom Duck!! (Donald’s Superhero Identity) or Patomas as we knew him in Spanish (ohh, childhood flashback! ) Must be all that drinking he’s doing. Say, can I use Super Goof as my Avatar? :hahaha;
And I can’t stand Lobo. Obviously, the character was created as a way to mock the traditional comic book hero values. I wouldn’t mind, except he shares the same universe as the Justice League. Why they allow him to run free is beyond me.
Viper: I really can’t get past the fact that the Ultimates (and the rest of Marvel’s Ultimate line characters) are just “extreme” versions of the real Marvel Heroes, sorry. (Doesn’t mean it cannot be good. I’m just too Old School, as I said.)
Lobo is one of my favorites,almost no comparison(IMO)
I really dont know about comics these years,i used to read comics from the early 90’s and the 80’s.That reminds me wonders how his copy of the first X-Men comic is worth
Mabat: blinks OHMYGOD! Mab’s turned into the Phantom Duck!! (Donald’s Superhero Identity) or Patomas as we knew him in Spanish (ohh, childhood flashback! ) Must be all that drinking he’s doing. Say, can I use Super Goof as my Avatar? :hahaha; [/b]
Go ahead. Make my day. And PLEASE, I may have a drink or seven every now and then, but that doesn’t make me a drunk, merely a statistic over here!
Taikaviitta’s one of my fav comic chars after Spidey and Garfield! I usually buy the paperbacks over here because they have a few stories with him; Alas, they quit his own magazine
And It’s Taikaviitta in Finnish… dunno about the English Phantom Duck name (I like Fantonald the most… And the original Italian Paperinik)

Well, Dream isn’t very nice but he gets what he needs to do done.
And you really can’t argue that Death isn’t nice. She’s a very compassionate per…err…entity. Also quite attractive. drool
