We are gaming addicts

You know that article is arguing against the idea of us being addicts, right?

Heavy game players can play an average 17 to 26 hours a week.

Yeah… Erm, I mean… whoa!

You don’t suppose any of those scientists actually took the time to actually play any of the games themselves, rather than watching and writing about them, did they? :thud:

Nah, they probably just rant on about things they’ve never experienced.

That’s like saying doctors don’t know anything about cancer because they’ve never had cancer.

Very true, but the difference there is that it wouldn’t hurt them to play Mario or Zelda for a couple of hours :-p

Sometimes it’s tough to draw the line between an addict and someone who just likes doing something a lot. I play lots of games when I have the time, but I don’t exactly go through withdrawal when I’m too busy or if I’m on vacation or something.

I’m not really an addict of anything… despite what certain people say. :stuck_out_tongue:

What exactly is so profound about playing a video game that one has to “experience” it in order to be able to conduct a survey about it?

I agree with TD.

Addicts would only play the games and do nothing more. Some people just don’t have anything better to do with their time. Like me =P

Nothing, however (and I admit that this probably isn’t true for the researchers, but by god is it ever true for most journos who write about these reports) it might just help remove a lot of prejudice. If you set out to find evidence proving that something’s evil/corrupting the youth of today/melon/delete as applicable, no matter how much counter-evidence you find, the report will always be written focusing on the anti-eveidence :thud: First line of the article- “SOME EVIDENCE exists that games stimulate the same areas in the brain as alcohol and other drugs” and I didn’t even have to capitalise the word “SOME” either :thud:

OK, maybe it’s time I stopped ranting

Wrong thread.

They’re not trying to prove that it’s evil, though. The article acknowledges that different opinions exist, cites some of them, and its headline states that people who play video games shouldn’t be labelled addicts.

I am a video game addict~ Is that a bad thing though~~?

God, if you don’t fit a minimum of 46 hours of gaming a week then you aren’t a gamer, let alone an addict.

Hmm… Lets see… Sometimes I play 5-6 hours per day, or even 9-10 hours during holidays and weekends… Aww shucks… I suck in math so I dunno if it adds up to the minimum requirements to become a “gamer”.

If playin’ video games every single day does not make me a gamer, WHAT DOES!? ARGGHHHHHHH!!! Hey… Maybe my friends won’t look down at me, sayin’ that I’m a lame ass person who doesn’t know how to do anythin’ besides from playin’ video games.

Fen, 35-42. Almost. Not quite, though.

I play about 50 hours a week, depending on my schedule. More likely than not, it’s a lot less than that. I don’t like weeks where I can net 50+ hours gaming. Makes me depressed that I have nothin’ to do.
