Watcha playing now?

I wish I took the master key, but I took special bombs the first time and…I think divine blessings the second time. Both were inferior choices. I remember my first time fighting the Black Knight in Undeadburg…he absolutely wrecked me the first time, so I decided I’d try and kill him with the bombs.

That didn’t work, but I did waste all my bombs!

Oh man, we’re talking about Dark Souls? I’m doing my first run of DS1 right now as a strength and dexterity based warrior, though I wear light armor for the sake of dodge rolling. My strength is high enough that I one hit kill Silver Knights with backstabs.

So far so good. I managed to get the Drake Sword, which helped a lot early game, but I’ve since upgraded to the Black Knight Sword. The only bosses that have really given me substantial trouble so far have been the Gaping Dragon and the Stray Demon. I just cleared the Painted World, so I’m in Anor Londo and level 60. I hear this is where things get serious, and while the Tower Knights have wrecked my shit a few times, it hasn’t been that bad. Yet.

Are you on xbox 360? I can help you with the boss.

I’m using the PC version (with DSFix, of course), but someone beat you to it. After getting my ass kicked by Ornstein and Smough about ten times, going back to farm humanity and returning, I wound up summoning a level 200 tank who (with gestures) had me stay back while he completely obliterated them. I would have preferred Ornstein’s armor and the Leo Ring but I’m just glad both of them are dead.

All told, boss aside, Anor Londo wasn’t that bad. I managed the running up the buttress area on my first go, and I was even able to take down a few invaders. Plus, being able to warp between bonfires now is a godsend.

Are you on Steam, Sorc? Sin’s never online because of work, ditto for 984, and Crotanks is too addicted to Dragonball Xenoverse.

Was the most upvoted message
Amazing chest ahead there? It’s there every time I beat those guys, upvoted to hell and back. Reaching it is always a good sign.

My most frustrating invasion happened when I was in Anor Londo. I’d just wiped the room before Snorlax and Pikachu and had gotten up for a phone call. Just as I sat down, the last of my health was gone. :frowning:

Unfortunately, I am not on Steam. I don’t really do PC gaming anymore, I much prefer the couch experience to sitting at a desk.

I don’t know if either of you know this, but for an interesting twist to Anor Londo shoot Gwynevere with an arrow.

Truth be told, Ornstein’s armor and the Leo ring aren’t necessary. The Leo ring is optimal with a katana (highest counter damage) for pvp, but the DS1 pvp scene is pretty vacant I’d imagine. Ornstein’s armor is probably more cumbersome than useful, I’ve never gotten it. Honestly when I play the game I usually just go for dodging and rolling in terms of equipment load, which leaves me typically with a hood (no helmet) and the elite knight set. Like, right now, I have a character whose sole purpose is to help people with O&S and outside of the Balder Side Sword (which is a rare drop and the best dex weapon I think) everything else is pretty standard. (I mean, except the Ring of Favor and Protection but that’s way easier to get than the baller sword)

Yeah, I heard about Gwynevere and what happens if you kill her. Before I face Gwyn I may just run through the game and kill all the merchants and NPCs for giggles.

I was actually surprised at how active the player base for DS1 is, especially now that it’s been migrated to Steamworks. DS1 and DS2 are both always in the top 100 Steam games by player count. Even in DS1 it’s not uncommon to be invaded in fairly out of the way areas like The Depths. Anor Londo in particular is a hotspot for both summon signs and invasions.

On the topic of the couch experience it’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s certainly doable to hook your desktop up to a TV and play it like a console. I actually have a lot of fun with it.

I built a PC with HDMI port in the videocard solely for that purpose. Got that, got a X360 controller, boom living room machine plugged to the TV.

I picked up Radiant Historia for the DS while I was at PAX last weekend. Supposed to be the best thing out there on that system.

It is amazing, the storyline and the branching/variations, the music…

You enjoy it. You enjoy it good.

I played through Dawn of War 2, which is more fun when your computer can run it without overheating. RH was fun although the best DS rpg is still The world ends with you, for my money.

TWEWY and RH are the best non-port/remake/Pokemon RPGs on the system, bar none. The big questions between the two are “How important are visuals and dungeon design are to you?” versus “How much Noruma and Touch Screen Controls can you handle?”.

Just started a SL1 run through dark souls. I love this game, and now I’ve gotten a lot better at parrying. I’ve reinforced my weapon now, so I might go parry-riposte Havel to death now.

Get it and we can battle!

Dark Souls was vanquished a while ago. I went with the Age of Dark ending. Hail to the king, baby.

I was actually pretty disappointed by most of the endgame bosses. I took Nito out on my first attempt, Seath out on my second attempt (I got careless on the first one), I obliterated the Four Kings of New Londo, and the Bed of Chaos knocked me down a pit a few times. By which point I was overleveled for the DLC content, since I kicked the ass of both Artorias and the Sanctuary Guardian. The Black Dragon and Manus did give me a bit of trouble but nothing compared to Ornstein and Smough.

Gwyn was considerably tougher, but I wound up managing my stamina and getting a few hits in when he tried to grab me. That’s the best opening he offers.

I’m coasting through NG+ at this point, and the bosses are only now getting challenging. I still defeated the Four Kings without that much trouble, though.

Just started on Pillars of Eternity. Looking good so far.

Oh man, Pillars of Eternity looks reeeeaally fun. The weird thing is, I’ve never even played old-school western RPGs. Do you think it would be enjoyable for someone who doesn’t have nostalgia for those games?

Man, I want to play Pillars pretty darn bad. Went to the Obsidian panel on it at PAX East. Got the freebie version upgrade they gave out to the crowd. Talked to Chris Avellone afterwards. Do want.

I have so much to catch up on it seems. I’m going through Final Fantasy X HD right now, annoying my wife in the process who keeps asking if I’ve finished it yet after 40 hours. Right now I’m just grinding AP because I want to get as many trophies as I can… damned trophy/achievement systems. I’ve beaten this game once already (albeit about 7 years ago)… though the expert sphere grid is a lot more complicated.

I really wish Squeenix would make an HD version of Final Fantasy XII though. I had much more fun with that game than with X.

FF10 was the last game in the main series I truly enjoyed. I disliked FF13, and I absolutely abhorred FF12.

(Five minutes of story exposition – Eight/Ten Hours of grinding/traveling with no story at all) xN. I gave up after about the eleventh time this happened, when I finally stormed the city of the main evil empire of the game, and when I fought the boss in there, he just went “Well whoopdee doo, I’m gonna fly away now, why don’t you find me at ________ instead?” So, fucking, infuriating.
