I can tell it’s going to be tough, and I’m thinking about running through it now just to see what it’s like, but I think by the time I finish all or most of the side quests I’ll be strong enough.
It’s funny, I haven’t even started a new character. Each character is an average game’s length all by itself. I’ll be playing this game forever before I beat it. Which is fine by me.
Yeah, USaGa is one of the most addictive games i’ve ever played, and partially BECAUSE of the random difficulty. In many games the random monsters are never much of a problem, and mainly serve to train you up for the boss, in this, they can be a serious drain on your resources before you get to the boss, and you don’t Level Up untill after the boss… I also LOVE the fact that there are skill that are useful outside of battle (all the “Thief Skills”) as well as skills that are useful in and out of battle (casting water magic on lava to cross w/o taking damage!) While it’s true it can be repetative, It still is in my top 5 games list… (just below SaGa Frontier 1)
I’m hoping to try this game but money is tight on account of having to replace the CD’s for two rare PS1 games (Legend of Mana and SaGa Frontier). :hyperven: I will say this: the first Romancing SaGa is the same way. It dumps you in areas where you may not be able to do everything and kill everything. The first wilderness area in Grey’s scenario has Triceratops’ in it that will kill your party in one round. You have to choose your battles, especially since too much idle time will lead to every monster in the area swamping on you like Night of the Living Dead. It’s hard, but it’s exciting.
Aside from SaGa Frontier 2 and it’s scenario/mission based system with lack of levelling opportunities, I’ve never had to restart a SaGa game except because of my inability to read Japanese. Intuition helps, but so do guides. :ah-ha!: For crying out loud, mainstream gamers, read the FAQs if you don’t understand something.
I wouldn’t have had to start SaGa Frontier 2 if I hadn’t stupidly saved in the final area with no safe save. Then again I probably would have had to anyway.
I rented Unlimited and played Judy’s quest. It was dissapointing. Frontier was much better.
Unlimited SaGa feels more like a dungeon crawler. You know how its like finding your way out of a maze.

As opposed to SaGa Frontier where the dungeons are much too short. You can navigate through most areas in 5 minutes if you dodge all the random battles. Some of the only post-SNES games that really have long, involved dungeons are the random-dungeon Grade-D crap like Azure Dreams and Evolution. So that may actually be a good thing.
In Unlimited Saga it was hard to get out of the dungeons, so that made hunting really difficult.
Some people actually regard the dungeons in Dragon Quest 7 as “dungeon crawls”. But they are just normal dungeons
You get out of the dungeons in U.Saga by running out of turns. Which really isn’t too hard. I just rest a lot. Plus if I’m having so much trouble with a main dungeon I need to leave it. Then I may as well reset and either do a side quest , buy new equipment, play with the black smith and etc.
I actualy haven’t played unlimited SaGa in a long time…
I just played it today. I beat the err last boss of Mythe’s quest. Again of course. All I need to do is beat the game with only melee and familiars. And of course using Mythe’s quest for a lowest LP party. Then I can claim people can beat the game just using martial arts (unlimited durability), familiars (unlimited spell use of set spells) and of course just buying the best armor, making black armlet for life protection too.
I can’t imagine beating the game with Melee only would be all that hard. You get a lot of panels for it anyways, so it’s easy to get a bonus, and Martial Arts are just really good anyways.
Familiars though, good luck. I have a level 5 water familiar that doesn’t even have Ice Needle. good. luck.
Well I’ve managed to find ways to deal with groups of enemies without group attacks. Besides there’s always shock to at least wear down HP of all enemies in a group while murdering one of the enemies with things like Call Back. Besides the idea is not to use just martial arts or familiars. But to use both. Which one depends on the character. Michelle I would honestly have use martial arts because of her strength. While Marie I would have use familiars.
I remember that Familiars could use detect attack. But it did nothing in battle! I thought the familiars were useless. Then again, a lot of stuff in that game don’t make sense
The familiars are not useless for me. Well level 1-2 aren’t that great. But once you get to level 3 fire and earth things get better. Especially if one sets things up right for your stats. Heck it was familiars that I relied on a lot to beat my first quest. Also if things make no sense. You may want to read FAQS at Gamefaqs. Joewoof’s to be exact.
