I remember seeing some of these questions when I played Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar many years ago. In most cases, what a paladin or a chivalric hero would do is not one of the absolute choices for answer given in this test, but some other course of action between the two so that the demands of both virtues might be met. For example, for the question regarding the beggar and the purse of gold, a paladin would deliver the chest of gold, thus fulfilling his sworn errand, but would also give the beggar alms from his or her own pocket.

Some of the questions seem rather ambiguous, because one could, for example, capture a wanted man, but then attempt to prove his innocence. Also, someone with honesty and honor would not cover up for his lord’s crimes. Sometimes, they would have to act in ways that could get them in trouble, instead of just sitting quietly and allowing immoral things to happen.
