Use veil spells to make more of the panel type you need to hit.

Hitting the panel that corresponds to the spell you are trying to learn increases how much you gain.

Being in certain areas also effects how much you gain for a spell.

Some areas are for bad for certain spell types. No natural element there. So following step 1 will make it easier to follow step 2.

If you know of an area where enemies automatically regenerate and it has a turn limit (side quest) then take advantage of it. Especially if enemies are easy.
One good example is Regal Lion’s Treasure, you can repeatedly face the Green Monster thing as much as you want until turns run out.
