MEPS: grah! >_<

Yesterday and today had to be the biggest bullshit days I’ve had in a while. My recruiter drove me up to Albany to take the ASVAB (Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Batter), my physical, and be enlisted/placed in a job.

Well, I took the test (in which I scored the 97th percentile- whoo), which was simple enough… except for the automotive and mechanical tests which I knew nothing about.

It was the physical that was the big fucking pain in the ass.

First thing they did was tell us to drink plenty of fluids before we headed out- and so I did… a bottle of coke, a cup of coffee, two cups of orange juice, and about three and a half glasses of water. Unfortunately, the urinalisis test wasn’t as soon as they told me. I had to go around five thirty AM, before we even got on the busses- and the urinalisis test wasn’t until… oh… eight fourty five. X_X

Before all of that they checked my eyesight (which is better than average, 17/20 in one eye and 15/20 in the other), hearing, and blood pressure. THEN they herded us into a room where they had us fill out redundant paperwork, gave us a breathaliser test, and FINALLY had us do our urinalisis test (I filled the cup up, and then peed three and a half minutes straight x_x). Then we had our blood tested, height and weight test, and then we had to do a series of… odd… excersizes (everything from a nice brisk walk to walking like a duck o_O). Then came the actual physical.

Unfortunately… I completely forgot that I had surgury on my throat at one point- and so Mr. Asshole Doctor interrogated me about it for a while, and then gave me a single sheet of paper saying I needed record of the surgury.

And so instead of being enlisted, I have to get the documents, and then drive two and a half hours back to Albany to be approved (because this was just an absyss, nothing really big). Then they’ll tell me what jobs I can apply for, which would be almost all of them- including the really high end ones like Nuclear Power- which I don’t want to do (and not just because my dad was a Nuke :p). The only thing is- I’ll probably have to take whats OPEN rather than what I want, so I kept a bunch of options open.

These are the things I’m considering:

I’m sorry to hear that you had a rash time, but I hope that things will get better once you settle somewhere in the line so to speak. Good luck!

Well, the Intelligence operative thing sounds the coolest, too bad you’re not eligible to be a marine huh?

Uh… who says I’m not eligible? I don’t WANT to be a marine (no offense to Infonick).

Secretaries tend to not be blown up by torpedoes…

…I’m just sayin’ is all.

Hoorah Marines!

No offense taken.

Ah, this brings back memories. I had a problem similar to that, but it dealt with my school and the other problem was charges pressed against me my junior year. MEPS is a lot of bullshit. Just wait 'til you get to training. You’ll probably get there at the same time you always do, but you’ll wait (literally just waiting) until the bus comes to take you to where you need to go. I HATED the physical, the requirements for each test are slightly different (I think), but each test is the same and they suck. Well, just keep at it. Good luck with it all.

Oh yeah, Rast The founder is an electronics tech in the navy.

Neither do journalists or paralegals. :stuck_out_tongue:

In fact, most of the jobs I’m after are pretty safe, although the one I’m most interested in is Intelligence Specialist.
